It's also illegal. And probably pretty stupid, considering mobile phones pretty much act as a homing beacon if they want to find you.
|
The cabling and software is also expensive making it pretty pointless if you are doing 1 phone, if you make it a regular earner on the side it might warrant it, but really, who can be arsed? It's far too time consuming learning all that shite to bother with.
| Quote: |
You're probably best to hand it in to the police tbh, as at least that way the owner's more likely to receive their phone back than it just get chucked and wasted entirely. Careful though, you don't want to get arrested for doing a good deed as i'd half expect that to happen in this day/age.
|
Yep, you guessed right: https://www.crosbyherald.co.uk/news/crosby-news/2009/04/02/teenager-arrested-by-southport-police-for-handing-in-mobile-phone-68459-23291295/
Sure, they dropped the case, but they still have his photo, fingerprints and DNA on file permanently, just in case he rapes or murders anyone in the future......
Anyways, @OP, you can sell it abroad, the IMEI thingy is not standardised across Europe (last time I checked anyway) so it will work overseas.

I hope the OP's family never complain if they are burgled or robbed - buying hooky goods creates the market for junkie twats to break into your house or for little wanksters to rob you at knife-point.
If you think it's acceptable for a teenager to be mugged because your sis is too cheap to pay for her own phone then you're a tit.
And don't give me that shit about "if she didn't buy it someone else would" - if no-one bought stolen goods, there wouldn't be a market for it.
I imagine there's a lot more to the case than the 'model student' is saying.
Most nicks get several phones/wallets/bags/purses handed in every day - no-one I know of has ever been arrested for it. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

16 eh? If she's cute she's forgiven!
Seriously though, if 'decent' people didn't buy stolen goods (if you're offered something in the pub or street for a fraction of its price you KNOW it's stolen) there wouldn't be any demand, and burglaries/robberies would dry up. ____________________ >Soultrader Mister James, I bet you are a copper

I got told that buying stolen goods is more punishable than stealing yourself for this reason, and that people flogging the occasional nicked phone as stuff would claim they nicked it themselves to get a lesser problem. Any truth to this?

Yeah maybe, but you can't be too careful these days, you know, I recall that guy who handed in a shotgun to his local nick that he'd found dumped at the bottom of his garden who was arrested and subsequently given a 1 years suspended sentence of 12 months imprisonment, which said to me that should I ever find myself in the same situation, the safest thing to do would be to ring up some of the more unsavoury people I know and flog to them, since it being out there as a potential murder weapon poses less chance of me getting nicked and put in prison, and I make a bit of cash at the same time - great success!

There was more to that case than meets the eye, but there was absolutley no reason he couldn't have simply asked the police to come and pick it up. You wouldn't even have to pay for the phonecall! Here's a good analysis of that case. ____________________ '11 CBF1000A, '99 C90, '98 CB500

Yeah but given the choice of calling a "friend" to trade with, or having an armed response squad rappel through my windows, most likely hold me at gunpoint and drag me off down the station for the obligatory 24 hours in a cell whilst they ascertain where the gun came from and if my story is water-tight, and THEN decide whether to prosecute me or not..well, I know which one is going to inconvienience me more.....

If you think "Hi, I think I've found a gun at the bottom of my garden. Could you send someone round?" is likely to result in that response, then you either live in Cumbria or you've been watching too many films!
Unless, of course, you've got a history of firearms offences, in which case you'd probably be right to be nervous. But then you'd have flung into your neighbour's garden or thought " 'ere, that's just what I need", in which case you're not calling the police.
Or, of course, you could flog it to a bloke in a pub. Because that's not going to lead to awkward questions down the line at all, is it. ____________________ '11 CBF1000A, '99 C90, '98 CB500
