Hi guys,

when I eventually get a bike I will obviously be in need of some basic kit to wear.

Not looking for anything too expensive as I have a limited budget.

But I will need the following:-

Helmet
googles
gloves
tops and pants
boots
jackets and trousers
And anything else I would need?

Thanks Smile

Waterproof boot liners. Don't bother with the expensive Sealskinz socks - I got some MVP (moisture vapour permeable?) socks/boot liners from eBay for £15 and they have kept my feet dry even when I have been standing in water.

Try and get some waterproof gloves for the winter - having freezing, wet hand is a miserable experience. Most gloves aren't waterproof, I had some success with some Sealskinz gloves - they seemed much better than the neoprene gloves I had which left me with cold hands in no time.

Get a quickstrap for the googles. It replaces the elastic strap with a semi permanent connection on one side and a velcro attachment on the other.

That way when you start to fog or get mud all over them you can remove the goggles quickly, but can also refit them with one hand. Try that with normal goggles and it's black eye time.

Armour! Shocked

Even if you think you won't be falling off or going too fast, chances are you will fall off. I'd highly recommend some kind of armour, if only knee guards and elbow protection.

I went for a full top and knee pads and then upgraded to knee guards after witnessing a few horror knee twists! Some of the guys wear neck braces as well, but mainly for racing rather than gentle trail riding!

+1 Thumbs Up for the waterproof socks/liners - mine have been invaluable and are military ones and cheap as anything when compared with the Sealskinz ones.

As for the winter riding etc. I have invested in heated grips and they are brilliant - can even help dry out the thin gloves! Unless it's brass monkeys I can still ride with fairly thin gloves - thick gloves are a pain!

I was in a similar situation as you a little while ago mate - i had no idea Laughing

From helpful members on here i gleaned some useful info though.
I use a textile jacket with armour in, a pair of lightweight gloves from Hein Gericke and a pair of Bericke motorcross boots - they weigh a ton and i cant feel much through them but they should protect my ankles and feet.

Im still using my road helmet at the moment, saving up for a decent 'offroad' lid i can use with goggles.

Im liking the look of the Shoei Hornet, but it aint cheap!
