'Muscle Bikes'

I've heard this phrase thrown around a couple of times.

What bikes are classed as 'Muscle Bikes'? It is MT-01 one? Z1000?

Do 'Muscle Bikes' even exist or is it something people call 1000cc+ naked bikes?

I always thought it was the big nakeds , gsx1400, cb1300, xjr1300, zrx1200 etc. Big engined retro looking bikes .

Modern retros aren't proper muscle bikes. My Bandit 12 is a pussycat compared to stuff like the GS1000 and Z1300. The ultimate muscle bike is maybe the Laverda Jota, although the CBX1000 was a bit of a beast too, as was the above mentioned Z13.

Big Nakeds would be my definition, where they have thick rear (and possibly front) tyres, engine sticking out either side, low down riding position, massive power and torque.

I think the term started being bandied about in the press in the early 90's when Kawasaki launched the Zephyrs, & Suzuki the Bandit, aping the style of the big road-bikes of the 70's and early 80's, and was applied to the bikes of that era and the 'retros'.
So, z1, z900, GS1000, CBX1000, XJ11, and what followed in that style.
V-Max was, is and forever will, be, no matter how muscle bound it is with or without the de-tuned euro-freindly motor, a 'Super-Cruiser'!

I think the kinds of bikes mentioned already are what id refer to as true muscle bikes. they have to have some style and image as well as be big and powerful.

You can't call a Yamaha FZ1, a Z1000 or a CB1000R a muscle bike, as they are just modern unfaired high performance naked bikes, but they don't have that much style or even look that good with their ugly engines and hoses and pipes all out on display like an afterthought

I like the MT-01 and the Z1000. Looks like the MT-01 is classed as a muscle bike and the Z1000 is not. Although it doesn't make any difference to me when picking a bike.

Bulldog 1100, GSXR1400, Hornet 900, those sort of bikes. Usually naked. Give you big neck muscles if you ride them flat out everywhere, hence the term.

i always think muscle bikes as old 70s-80s twin shock naked bikes like the cb900f/1000f gs1000 and such like because they have to be muscled into the corners were moden naked bikes just glide round the corners and take little effort a muscle bike has to be forced round wollowing and wobbleing trying its hardest to spit you off proper mans bike imo
