I've heard this phrase thrown around a couple of times.
What bikes are classed as 'Muscle Bikes'? It is MT-01 one? Z1000?
Do 'Muscle Bikes' even exist or is it something people call 1000cc+ naked bikes?
Just curious. ____________________ MKGaming.com

I think the term started being bandied about in the press in the early 90's when Kawasaki launched the Zephyrs, & Suzuki the Bandit, aping the style of the big road-bikes of the 70's and early 80's, and was applied to the bikes of that era and the 'retros'.
So, z1, z900, GS1000, CBX1000, XJ11, and what followed in that style.
V-Max was, is and forever will, be, no matter how muscle bound it is with or without the de-tuned euro-freindly motor, a 'Super-Cruiser'! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Why does the Vmax have this all-pervading 'shit in corners' rep??
I ride a Vmax as described, and all it took to fettle it so that corners weren't a lottery was higher wider bars with heavier end-weights,and a set of Avon Storms with good solid walls.
Most of my mates have race-reps of one sort or another, and they're ALWAYS amazed that I can hit twisties without flinching, and can very often get on the button before them on the exits,as I don't have to shift my weight around the bike
I'm not posing about riding skills-I'm Johny Average-I'm just putting forward a genuine question-WHY do people insist on saying a Vmax can't corner?
Because, with a decent set of heavy-grade tyres,[+,admittedly a set of higher wider bars],a Vmax is as good in a set of twisties as any bike I've ever ridden.
You may say "AH,but you've modded it".
That falls flat though, because of the 16 blokes [and 3 femmes] I normally go on rideouts with, only 2 have totally stock bikes.
Ok,just thought I'd ask.

Ok groovy.
I like the MT-01 and the Z1000. Looks like the MT-01 is classed as a muscle bike and the Z1000 is not. Although it doesn't make any difference to me when picking a bike. ____________________ MKGaming.com

Bulldog 1100, GSXR1400, Hornet 900, those sort of bikes. Usually naked. Give you big neck muscles if you ride them flat out everywhere, hence the term. ____________________ Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter won't mind - Dr. Seuss |

Maybe its just that people assume the relaxed steering, long wheelbase, possibly low ground clearance and even the riding position compromise the handling a bit compared to sportsbikes?
I'm sure these are just assumptions though and the ability of the rider to make the most of the machine is I'm sure more significant. |
