Friday night i go out for a ride with some mates, all on 400's and 125's, it was great, until we all departed.....
I got 300 yards then my chain deicides it will have a laugh and snap on me. SNAP, CRUNCH, STALL...and there i am at 2am on my own, with no tool's, no money, no phone. so i flag down a car and ask them very nicely if i can borrow there mobile, ring my dad . who saved me, then assessed the damage the next morning.
Almost exactly the same boat as Dr. Nick, although i'm yet to asses if theres any internal damage. if there is i'll be looking out for a gixer 400 lump, so if anyone has one, i'd gladly give you an offer. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

Snapped chains are not fun.
You hopefully havn't had any damage to the engine, I had the chain snap on an R6 whilst going down the M4 fairly rapidly. No damage to anything, just needed to fix the chain and it all worked again. |

Got the chain off, internal cogs seem ok, and does'nt look like theres any damage to anything else apart from the sprocket gaurd which is in a few bits, so if anyone has a guard for a GSF/GSX-R 400 they want to sell, i would be very grateful.
ordered new chain/sprockets but didn't bother with a blue one, just went for strength .
Thanks everyone. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.

I've got a scottoiler fitted to the Busa & it paid for itself within 4 months. Try this for a recommendation, Hayabusa 1000 miles, NO chain adjustment required. 1,500 miles, 1/4 turn of adjustment required!!! & that's on a tweaked Busa my friends. ____________________ Karma!! I am surprised at the broken chains, I have run some of my bikes to the very limits of roadworthy (including using industrial drive chain and on one occasion having 3 broken rollers) when I was a poverty stricken student, but I have never had a chain snap.
Maybe I ride in a more sedate manner so I am not putting big shock loads into the chain.
Do you wheelie a lot or do a lot of drag style starts? One of the big chain companies had a bad batch of chain last year but that stuff should all have been recalled or scrapped by now. How often do you check your chain for side to side movement? ____________________ Trust me, I`m an engineer

Not worth it, luckily the damage to main engine casing is only very small, because i used cheap tarty blue anodized bolts, they just snapped rather than tore out the thread and casing, so should come out with a Dormer, not worth welding up the smashed cover, just e-mailed a guy breaking a gixer engine so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the advice though. ____________________ Chase my Witch up, Catch my Snitch up.
