Snapped chain... Guttered

I was off to have a nice day in scarbough today. 70 MPH on A64 then a huge CRACK! Im lucky it didnt hit me or my gf.

Just thought id share my day

Name and shame the chain....But in that photo it looked very dry.

lol i put in workshop cos i had pic of it in bits

Aye we are very lucky. Had chain about a year. Was lubed very recentaly too.

Ordered all the parts

Undertray section
Undertray tail section
Mud guard and chain guard
Chain
Rear indicator

Came to just over £150, receovary cost me £200

and as for the reg plate, ill use my baby small one for the time being wen fixed

I only hope their isnt internal damage

look at the state of the chain! I am fairly certain that if this chain was cleaned and lubed as often as it should be this wouldn't of happened.


but alas, it is my worst fear, glad everyone is ok!

That is a very manky chain. I clean mine once a week and lube it twice a week.

Once you've initially cleaned it up, it takes all of 5 minutes to clean and lube the chain with a paraffin soaked rag and a toothbrush dipped in oil.

And £200 recovery charge? Why haven't you got break down cover?

You say the chain was a year old, but how many miles had it done?

chains proably done close to 7,000 miles, i admit i had negleted the chain at the start of this year. Since then ive lubed it often, bout every 2 weeks with chain spray wax. Shame its come to this

The pic of the chain i put on is the side which faces the wheel, From the side which can be viewed it doesnt look too bad.

Recently i noticed tight spots, i adjusted it too suit. Ive learnt my lesson. If i get tight spots in my chain and have problems ajusting it (which i did, took me ages) then just buy a new chain. This weekend its cost me nearli £400 for the recovary and all the parts to fix the bike.

So anyone out there who feels they need to change, DO IT! As your bike cud end up like mine
