Unless you do some serious mileage, then that is overkill.
I clean mine possibly once a month, and that is just a quick wipe.
As for lubing I lube the chain once every 150/200 miles. |
If it looks dry, I lube it. With the weather we've been having recently (lots of rain), after a couple of days commute, the chain is dry, so I lube it. As I said, it takes 5 minutes so why wouldn't I?
I clean the chain when I clean my bike which is every week. Once again, only takes 5 minutes so why not do it?
I don't take my chain off to clean it, there's no need to.
And if anyone is wondering, I use chain saw oil.

The pic of the chain i put on is the side which faces the wheel, From the side which can be viewed it doesnt look too bad.
Recently i noticed tight spots, i adjusted it too suit. Ive learnt my lesson. If i get tight spots in my chain and have problems ajusting it (which i did, took me ages) then just buy a new chain. This weekend its cost me nearli £400 for the recovary and all the parts to fix the bike.
So anyone out there who feels they need to change, DO IT! As your bike cud end up like mine ____________________ Speedfight 50 -> Honda NSR 125 -> Y reg YAMAHA YZF R6 -> 08 YAMAHA YZF R6 -> Honda CBR1000RR
