Every bike has some issues, I don't think triumphs have more than most others.
595 was prettier, but 955 has more grunt. Both are relatively old fashioned in handling etc (not in a bad way) but both great on British roads.
I've got a 955 speed triple and its a keeper, great community on triumph torque, and its a proper British bike |

Whereabouts are you?
As for the handling- I've never had a problem with mine, but front suspension is a little soft as std so I've had mine rebuilt with a decent valve kit and stiffer front springs and I'm liking it even more |

Don't listen to G. If you believe what he says, his brain works only in scientific terms and will only ride or buy a bike if its within a hairs whisker of winning at Top Trumps.
The 955i is a good bike. The original T595 was renamed after a year or so to become the 955i. The original shape 955i is the best one to go for because it had all of the early problems ironed out.
My 1998 955i which I owned from 2001 to 2003 is still going in the hands of a mate of mine, who has now done 40,000 miles and it still looks like it has just come out of the factory. Just give it a clean and it looks great.
They aren't quick turners but they are stable once they are in a corner, and the grunt available is good to have on the road. The power delivery is smooth and about right for what you want on a road bike. Yes, they are heavy but you don't notice the weight on the move. They aren't super comfortable but they are OK for a sportsbike of that era.
They are also super reliable, tough, well built and (IMO) good looking.
When you buy, check the eccentric chain adjuster on the rear wheel hasn't been mullered by someone using a screwdriver to adjust the chain. I can't think of any other particular 'common issues' with the bike.
They *are* good bikes, it is just they aren't as light or as fast as the Jap bikes of the same era. Doesn't mean they are bad bikes though. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |
