 |
|
Well at the weekend I took the BMW1000RR out for a spin, I tried to test it every way I possibly could, barring one, but I'll explain that later. there is a little video at the bottom of a small run with straight lines and a little round-a-bout surfing to test the traction control. Video quality was not great for some reason, was pretty good before I uploaded it to Youtube.
Overall it was an awesome one litre bike, the gadgets on there really make it safer for the rider, but in my opinion takes some skill out of the riding. For example, the traction control and build in giro thingy is awesome for cornering as you can literally whack the throttle right back and the bike will give you as much power through the rear wheel without spinning it up. so you should have a faster exiting speed out of the corner. But in my opinion powering down on a straight the traction control ruins the acceleration and makes it rather jumpy. This is the only option I do not like as overall it ruins the smoothness of the bike. But I later found out you can switch it off if required....I didn't realise that, hey ho!
Brakes on this machine are Brembos and are the best brakes I have ever tried, simply unreal.
I like the 3 different modes to dull the power down for different riding, but this is no new feature to the biking world, as you all know Suzuki have had this for a while.
It's looks were pretty off putting at first, BMW being BMW like to make ugly machines, but by the end of the test ride the looks grew on me.
What are everyone's views on the bike?
Here are a couple of pics and the video;

A mate has one in the baby shite colour
Nice bike, apart from the different headlights (BMW trait). Launch control is useless as I left him at the lights and I was on my Bandit 600 ____________________ Suzuki GSF600 K3 (in the fastest colour, black). |

It's a nice bike, I wasn't to impressed with the mid range on it, and felt that pretty much all the power was at the top end of the rev range. Like you say, the traction is good, but it does take a little away from the riding, but it does work very well, you can give it full throttle in the wet and it won't spin the back wheel. The brakes are amazing, they are miles better then the brakes on my Fireblade, this was the most impressive part of the bike for me. The handling was good, didn't feel quite as nimble as my Fireblade, but still felt very sure footed, and quite nice.
Overall I would say it would make a better track bike then it does a road bike, due to all the power being at the top of the rev range.
I have rode a couple of them now, and I think if it had the mid range and the nimbleness of the Honda, I would have one. ____________________ 2009 CBR1000RR

You can wheelie them for as long as you like if you put it in Slick mode with traction off ____________________ 2009 CBR1000RR

I've been tempted between one of these, the blade or a Ducati 1098 or 1198 for some time now..
Unfortunatly due to work, i might not be in the country forever so dont want to loose a load of money on another new bike ____________________ Current Bikes: Honda CBR 600RR - '07, Suzuki GSX1250 FA ST '11

Hi
True, but then saying you bought a BMW is much the same as saying you bought an ugly bike . No more description of the looks is required. Suppose you could argue that to the rider the front end isn't visible even passing a shop window.
More seriously, I think there is meant to be some claim that odd offsets of headlights make bikes more visible and helps with perceptions of distance for those who see the bike.
All the best

I think my bike is ugly, but I bought it for how good it is, not for how it looks.
I'd imagine it's the same for a lot of BMW owners, looks is the last thing they will look at when buying a performance 1 litre bike! ____________________ 2009 CBR1000RR

As I said above, I to thought the bike was damn ugly, but by the end of the day it was growing on me.
I remember someone said to me on here once when I was talking about the new R1 looking awful, that you can't see how ugly the bike is when you are sat on it. Kind of makes sense. ____________________ Current bike - GSX-R1000 k8 |
