Why are you asking ranna? If you are even thinking about not doing them for any reason - DON'T!!

You can guarantee that the first time you forget/can't be bothered whatever will be the time some tool is trying to overtake in your blind spot, and that'll be goodnight Sad

I've looked over my shoulder just before changing lane on the motorway, mirrors clear, clear up ahead, clear behind, one check over my shoulder and there is a car sitting in the other lane right next to me.

If I had changed lane without looking it probably would have been a bit messy, at 80mph. So yes, I think it has.

Yes.

You know, you can get an entire London bus in your blindspot.

Yes, it's saved me from turning right in front of a police car on a silent run once, blue light was going, but no siren.

It's also saved me when in town (London), it's full of despatch riders that are in a rush to delivery / collect packages.

Yes! One time in particular I remember when I was out on some twisty roads and I was about to pass a car so I done a lifesaver and there was a biker riding right along side and slightly to the back of me. Extremely close! Shocked He came from nowhere. So I just stayed in place and let him go by. If I never lifesavered I would have taken him out.

i always get them lifesavers in well i have done on all my lessons and test and when i have my bike you bet i'm going to get every single lifesaver in.

been doing some searches on google and its unbelievable how many people have crashed just because they did not look in their blindspots

saved me on one of my lessons as well, i was at a junction just as i was about to to move off done my left and right shoulder check, only too see a loony nova driver probably named gary doing 50+ right passed me. To put it plain and simple, i shit myself Shocked

Its saved my life on more than one occasion (living in Central London) not least of which was a surprisingly quiet Porsche coming up on my right when I was about to change lanes on the A13 at around *cough cough* miles per hour.

I'm sure it has saved my life, if not avoided some nasty spills. Too many times to recall, and i've only been riding a few months...

I highly recommend doing lifesavers, wherever needed!

And use your mirrors frequently AS WELL. Thumbs Up

(i have to try to use mirrors a bit more). Its good to know whats going on around you, for safety and re-assurance.) Thumbs Up

My boyfriend once forgot a lifesaver (me on the back, raining, long day as a courier, he was tired and just wanted to get home). He turned legally onto the Embankment but then had to cut across two lanes to do a sharp left turn to get to Chelsea Harbour, and heard someone shout "Oi!!!!" behind him.

*Somehow* he had managed to cut up a Hells Angel Shocked

Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

He did say "Sorry!" but by then, the HA bloke was long gone Smile

Fortunately neither (any) of us came off the worse for wear - or was interested in anything more than getting on with getting out of the rain. I often wonder who it was but no-one's ever come up to him and gone "'Ere, you cut me up on the Embankment in the rain!" *doink*

Have a heart. Some of those despatch riders have people like me at home, growling and spitting at them when they aren't working hard enough to keep me in the manner to which I am accustomed Smile

In Italy they also teach us sort of life savers for the car .... just looking out of the window over the shoulder before moving to cover the mirror blind spot ... and although I have not been riding enough to really notice a difference ... I remember a particular occasion in the car when I was overtaking a slow car on the A21 on a large left bend and the mirror did not show a car that was overtaking me very quickly ... was just a bout to pull out but stopped in time!!

I too check my car window (like a lifesaver), this has come in handy a few times. This is mainly from excessive bike riding, a habit more than being taught to do it in a car.

Theres a roundabout near where I live that holds three lanes of traffic on the roundabout, and three lanes on the entrance to the roundabout (very straight forward and difficult to be in the wrong lane). As I approached I checked the mirrors, indicated right, and looked over my shoulder before moving and found a car trying to squeeze past on the outside, i just sped up a little and was safely in front to move across to the right for my turn.
I believe that little LS or look over the shoulder is priceless!
