Posted: 18:59 - 17 Sep 2010 Post subject: small cheap van for trackbike |
 |
|
had a little search around here n can't seem to find any similar threads.
right- have recently bought a trackbike which is not road legal and am after a means of transport for it.
ideally it needs to be cheap and fuel efficient as i'd be getting rid of my car.
so what's the smallest (probably) car derived van you could fit a bike in. namely a cbr600f. rather than going for a battered transit or similar.
been looking at stuff like ford escort van or carrier, vauxhall combo etc...
anyone got any ideas what can be used?
thanks for helping ____________________ Sahf East Winnah 4LYF

A Ford Connect would probably be about the right sort of size... a sort of high top version of a car based van.
Not been around for too long though, so it may be worthwhile looking for a similar alternative - a Kangoo maybe?? ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

do like the look of the transit connect, would be perfect. then i had a look on ebay and the prices are unfortunate.
really hoping someone has an escort van they use for track bikes or know the dimensions (cant find them) as they seem to go for peanuts!
a kangoo based van would work well and the pricing isn't too bad so am considering that. ____________________ Sahf East Winnah 4LYF

Would it not be more cost efficient to rig your car up with a nice snazzy trailer?
Just a thought.
But by the sounds of your post I'm assuming it's probably already crossed your mind. In which case, disregard this
Cheers,
Steve. |

I've got a Ford Fiesta Courier van that I transport my MX bike in.
It ONLY just fits, literally, I have to put it in diagonally and then wedge the front wheel down the side of the passenger seat, the passenger can still sit in the seat, so its not to bad, then the back wheel right up to the door. It fit's, but only just! I'm not sure how a road bike compares to my Motocross bike, I've never tried to put the CBR in the van? I would imagine the Motocross bike is a lot taller, so height isn't an issue, but I'm not sure if it would be any longer? My MX bike is a KTM 200sx, and they have quite a long swing arm, my friends YZF250 fits better! ____________________ 2009 CBR1000RR

did think it was a tall order getting one in an escort van.
in regards to a trailer, had i thought about it before getting too cheerful about buying a car, i would have made sure the car i was going to buy was able to take a towbar.
unfortunately i didnt and ended up buying a ford ka. bad foresight on my part. so that's out of the question. ____________________ Sahf East Winnah 4LYF

This is the same as my van, cost me £200
I don't see why a CBR600F wouldn't fit? The KTM fits, and I'm sure, lentgh wise, its as long as a CBR6?
The Vauxhall Combo, and Peugot Parter derived van's wouldn't fit the KTM in, this was the only Combo style van I could find that was the right size!
