A cable's a cable.

I always laugh at people who pay £20 for gold plated USB cables so that their DJ equipment will sound better.

= FAIL

You did the right thing with a cheap ebay purchase.

only true if its carrying a digital signal, analogue does suffer from poor cables

Yea all my cables are ebay/amazon.

Was chatting to my friend about my 1080 HD xbox 360 set up and he said, " yea but my gold platted *etc etc* £20 makes it better than yours"

Really, it no has more pixels?!?! Marketing at its best!

With longer digital cables some are better than others. I have cheap (£5) 10m ones don't work at 1920x1080 although my other cheap £10) 10m ones work fine. The more expensive ones are gold plated Laughing .. XS Stock FTW!

btw wouldn't pay more than £10 on a digi cable, diffirent if it's analogue though.

If its analogue, generally its better to get oxygen free copper cable with gold plated ends. Less distortion from excess signals going into the cable which gives a better sound/picture.

With digital, its all the same up to around 5metres... After that, I'd go for normally a slightly more expensive cable, anything over 10metres (again, oxygen free, gold plated ends to ensure better signal quality over the distance).

I do believe better cables encourage a better signal however the increase you gain is often minimal.

Gold plated is pointless unless the sockets you are connecting to are also gold.

What exactly are you doing with these cables? Surely it's simply a case of plugging it in and leaving it alone Confused

ive used 2 cat5 cables (computer network cable) over about 40 meters joined to hdmi connector blocks with no loss in picture quality,
cat 5 cable is just shit single copper strand cable, nothing special at all,
you don't need oxygen free gold plated shit for anything,
you'd have to have magical ears to pick up the difference between oxygen free gold plated over cheap copper cable,

people pay big money for "monster cables" though... fools

i remember a few years ago when i got my new (now old) computer with hmdi output on the graphics card and went to get an HDMI cable from the computer fair.

some snooty woman tried telling me the 10m cable or however long it was i wanted would cost like £60 and had to be made out of this that and the other or the signal would degrade.

yeh.. digital signal over 10m :/

told her where to go, bought from another stall for less than £10 i think and its currently running under the carpet, computer to tv perfectly fine and has done for years.

the unfortunate thing is some people actually listen to them and end up spending a fortune when they just done need to.

the thing with hdmi cables is that the basic cable cores are only 0.08mm2 per core compared to cat5/6 which is 0.57mm2 about 7times as large per core,
and as you know over distance current and voltage capacity drop,
the opposite is true of noise levels,

a couple of cat5/6 will do a far better job than any shielded fancy hdmi cable will do
