Oh yes, always at least 100 miles before you get low on the new tires

This is what happens when genny covers meet curbs

One of the fantastic corners on my way home, and it tucks in.

Rolling Eyes

Remember the 100 mile rule.

100 mile rule is arse.

Just don't try too much too soon. I've had tyres scrubbed in during 15 road miles, or 2 laps of Brands Indy.

Unlucky though chap.

Also 100 motorway miles does nothing to scrub in the edges. It's about being gradual rather than a set distance.

I think what is more important is heat cycles.

Although i did try to keep to the 100 mile rule but only got to 50 before i started having fun lol.

TBH I thought they were ok. How wrong I was. They were done on Thursday I believe and I've done 50 ish miles since then. But no.

And yes I've had 3 this year. But I'm getting better at it. It's not written off this time and all I hit is a curb. And fixed on the roadside with a mates help to shoot past my house and pick one of the 3 genny cases I have on my bench.

Just need to replace the instant gasket seal tomorrow when Honda reopen.

Good fun.

I stay pretty vertical for the first 30, then slowly get lower and lower, do a few roundabouts boths ways, then at 100 miles it's a free for all.

Had a new front tyre on the Bandit at the end of last week... Done about 50-60 miles on it so far, and yes I'm increasing lean angles slowly.
(However, I'm still REALLY tempted to get rid of those chicken strips and attempt a knee down on the way home from work tomorrow morning) Rolling Eyes

Dosen't seem so. Worked fine on the way home and there's no visual damage.

Seem pretty lucky. The case a graze on the plastics, ground mushroom and bent the bars but are useable.

Yes 100 miles is balls. The key is to get heat into them and gradually lean further and further. You could do 100 miles in small increments (which it sounds like you have) and still not have them scrubbed. Best thing is get the new rubber fitted then go out for a 'ride' , not a few trips to work and back or whatever.
My last set were probably scrubbed in enough after 40-60 miles. I got the tyres fitted and clocked up around 80miles on the twisties immediately, job sorted.

Heat cycles mean nowt really. The only thing scrubbing them in does is get rid of the release agent, and possibly seat the tyre on the rim properly. That's it.

I had a new set of tyres fitted and they were a bit slippery for a good few miles. I find that a few corners with the extra grip stuff is good to get them sorted.
But I then got a puncture in the rear. Took it back to be fixed, and I just love Avon as it was replaced FOC (under 1K miles) for a new one.

Well I had to take the wheel in the car, which then spent all day in the car in 70+ temps, while I was at work.
Put that on and it was fine from the off. All I can think is that it sweated away nicely in the heat.

When the 1000 needed a new rear, I think i took it alot easier than I did my 600, but im sure it was after about 10 mins of being fitted and ridden before I leant over normally.

Since then its been over and over gradually... but its never give or anything.

Unlucky mate Thumbs Down bet you are glad you had spare covers Laughing

I thought the heat cycles helped get rid of that film of stuff that they are released with?

EDIT: Well, heating the tyres up fully anyway.

Just to be pedantic, I've only written one off, the other didn't go through insurance and this isn't a write off. Just a graze

And 3 crashes in 6 months.

Thumbs Up

I'll meet that and raise you 5 miles on the road or one lap of Lydden Razz.

The trick is to only lean it a little bit more at a time. 100 miles bolt upright will probably leaves cornering pretty dodgy still.
