Something reminded me of an event that took place with my friends when we were teenagers (3 delightful ladies).

I had a few very good friends as a teenager, we spent every weekend going out, drinking, chatting to guys, and doing the usual teenage things. On this particular night, there were three of us, all with different problems;
Me, I'm Deaf as a post (can't hear a word people are saying in noisy environment's) - Blind often translated for me.
The next is Blind as a bat (she had no idea who was who unless they were stood next too her) - I used to give her the lowdown on who was who.
The third, found it impossible to remain vertical after a few drinks, lets call her Legless.

We used to go to the local Rugby club disco - what fun! On this particular occasion, there we were; Deaf, Blind and Legless. Part way through the night, Deaf noticed that Legless had disappeared and employed Blind (stupidly) to come and find her with me. We found her in the ladies loo.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, some poor soul had removed the content of their stomach and placed it on the floor. Even more unfortunate was the fact that Legless had not noticed before it was too late. There she was, on the floor, squirming around in someone else's acidic stomach content, leather jacket plastered. Every time she found one foot, down she went again. Then she spotted us and stretched a hand out for us to rescue her.

I don't remember what happened next very clearly, but I remember looking at Blind, we both had an look of utter disgust on our faces, cringed, and believe, we left very quickly - hoping that Legless would never remember our presence.

How deep does your friendship run? What have you done to help a fiend of yours that's worthy of a pat on the back?

I'm clearly not a good friend to have

Carried my mate, unconcious, covered in sick, about 3 or 4 miles to get him home once.

Sat with my mate in his house waiting for a knock on the door from a gang of very unhappy blokes looking for some serious payback.

It's times like that when you really find out who your mates are.

Helped to carry two friends home after they had been sick on my feet. When I wasn't wearing my shoes.

I know this ia is a big generalisation but I think friendship runs deeper between men than women. I wouldn't have left my mate rolling around on the floor in someone else puke, I wouldn't have joined him but I would have given him a hand and complained about it the next day but I wouldn't just walk out.

I always see girls/women insukting each other over facebook or something then the next day they are fine. WTF is that about.

Anyone agree?

How deep is friendship? Hmmmm that`s a hard one!

I`ve left my mates in lots of situations that have been of thier own making.
For example covered in their own vomit Smile or minus their trousers in the middle of Kensington Smile or locked in a phone-box with about five stink-bombs that have been let off Smile (we were very young at the time).
But they were never in any real danger.
I am glad to think that I have never left my mates if there has been any hint of them coming to any harm and I am proud of that.
Hopefully they will return that sort of care when the tables are turned??

My post should not be taken in stone. We were young, drunk and thought it was funny to run away. If a friend really needed me, I'd be there like a shot. She got herself up and was fine.

Not sure what the facebook hoo-har is all about, I don't see any of that going on. Again, I think that's an age thing & possibly that women are more likely to verbalise their opinions?

Last month I walked/carried/dragged two (much bigger) paralytic friends back from the main stage at Reading on the opening night. 1 hour through a swamp back to the tent, against the crowd. Missed GnR, one of the main reasons I was there.

But I know they would have done the same in a heartbeat, thought nothing of it until reading this thread.

I acted as bait for a mate who had upset a gang late at night in a dodgy area once. His bike, think it was a 600 Kwack, had been nicked earlier and so we went around about 2am looking for it. He didn't realise then that you don't stare at passing cars, with an angry accusing look on your face, especially at a bunch of drugged up nutters in a Morris Ital in a dark corner of a council estate.

Because he was fatter and more unfit than I was the fastest one caught up with him, so I stopped running and kept taunting the guy, calling him names, insulting his mother..etc.. until he started chasing me, giving my mate chance to get back home before the others caught up.

Funny thing is, years later I'm actually good mates with the guy who wanted to beat him/us up and am doing his business website for him (he's not the bully he used to be anymore). I've never mentioned the incident to him, and I think he's completely unaware it was me. Smile

A friend a few years ago was in a severely abusive relationship with a girl (she was abusive, not him). I had a phone call at 3am from her house, it was him asking me to meet him as he'd 'had enough' and was walking home. I was 18 at the time, hadn't got a vehicle and no cash for a taxi. She lived about 12miles from my house. I'd ran 5miles before I started to puke, and met him around the 9 mile mark... I walked back with him in the pouring rain talking to him about everything eventually arriving at my house about 8am..

I've known him for about 13years now, been through a lot with him on many drunken nights..

Another time was when we were in a bar in my city centre pretty drunk, he managed to *somehow* find the ugliest, oldest woman in the place (I'm talking, we're 18/19 and she's around 60) I pulled him off and took him home. Beer googles is one thing but there's no excuse for what he was doing to her...

I once had to accompany/nail a 15st female bouncer to cover my mates back!

He was seeing her but met a lovely petite thing at same time and decided to invite new version to party we were going to, however, another ex-mate decided to invite said bouncer at same time behind pals back thinking it was funny!!! W@nker!!

So, when said bruiser walked in and seen pal there with young lass he said if i could sort it he would keep me in beer all night, so i went over and took her to one side, blagged i thought my mate was bang out of order and to get back we should spend evening in each others company, sneaky, she agreed and all went off smoothly, until after copious amounts of alcohol she decided as i had been so nice to look after her i deserved lots of drunken sex!!!!

Then took me 4 weeks to eventually get rid of her again!! And still best mates with pal!!

Set my friends outbuildings on fire.
Crashed into my friends car which was less than a day old.
Licked-out my mates bird.

Driven 35 miles at 2am to pick up a drunken friend, had to carry them to my car and put them in the passenger seat, drove 35 miles back, carried them to a bed in my house and they slept for the night, made sure they were okay in the morning etc.

There are friends I'd do anything for, have known them 10+ years and I have noticed this too, male camaraderie seems to extend far beyond female camaraderie.

Maybe guys get themself into 'situations' more readily? Wink

Or Prehaps its just that guys are in a position to generally be more helpful. Strength is a big player here and also knowledge of mechanics and alike.

I don't think you can say that men are more genuine at friendship than women.

I have a friend that drove 4hrs to come and help me with my 3 month old baby, when I was really unwell. The father (my partner at the time) would not even contemplate taking a day off work to help.

Talking of which, I'm off to Eastbourn in the morning to visit said friend - she is an amazing girl, by far one of the nicest people I know. Smile

For people I consider good mates I would do anything they ask of me no excuses.

Too many examples to list really.

I have one good mate who has driven from York - West Sussex to help me move then gone back again, Driven me from York - Kent to pick up a bike. Driven me from York - Essex - Reading - York to sell a bike and pick another one up plus countless other epic things.

People like this you meet once in a lifetime, so you have to look after them too.
