 |
|
After much nagging from a mate, i have decided to scrape some money and a team together and take the plunge into "budget" racing.
I bought the "bike" from someone else in the race series at an absolute bargain price of £300 but it was an insurance write off and declared as scrap. Forks, wheels, frame and bars are all straight, just a couple of slightly bent radiator mounts and bent fins, nothing a mallet and a screwdriver cant fix.
This will be a long running project as i fight for time to get the bike race ready in time for the first round at Rowrah circuit in North Cumbria at the start of May, sounds like plenty of time but all i have been hearing is that the time will fly by so i had better get a shift on
This is how the bike turned up at my door:
https://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee125/carlosamillios/100_1291.jpg
To say i was shocked would be about right. All the bike needs to be useable is a front brake caliper/lever/mount/hose, new chain and a rear sprocket.
The engine shall be here in a few weeks as Supersloaths team stole it as they broke their own! But i dont mind as the clutch in it went after one race so they are giving me a good one instead. Had the choice of " One we raced all season or one that hasnt been raced?". Ill have the un-raced one pelase! Also need a petrol cap and ignition key as Supersloaths mate drained the fuel and forgot it, d'oh!
This is how the bike stood after half an hour of swearing and cursing trying to put it together on my own:
https://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee125/carlosamillios/100_1292.jpg
The road bike and the race bike, i will try my best not to pillage the road bike for spares, but that might be a different matter come race day.
https://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee125/carlosamillios/100_1294.jpg
And how the bike stands currently:
https://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee125/carlosamillios/100_1295.jpg
Will be grinding the rear subframe off along with all the unnecessary metal bits like fairing mounts and footpeg hanger mounts.
As soon as the engine turns up, these will be going in:
https://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee125/carlosamillios/100_1303.jpg
Titanium valve springs and a 280 degree rotation 5.5mm lift race cam, will hopefully make a decentish increase in performance.
Need ideas on a colour scheme too but will focus on getting the bike ready to race first.
Will keep you all updated with any and all changes when i get round to it.
Any thoughts and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

@Zene, not yet as I'm still waiting to pick engine and a few more bits up. Max bore we are allowed is 128cc but I'm getting the head ported and gas flowed asap and high compression piston.
@Blackwolf having a bit of trouble finding a way down there at the min, I gave my team mate your number did he not phone you? Think he is down that way sometime so he said he would phone you.
Now the weather is getting colder, most if not all the work will be done in my living room, so if I make a thread in Dear Aunty BCF you know why lol. ____________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OPv5mDPQ14

Starting to make a little progress today, had the engine, carb, petrol cap and key delivered so thought i would crack on straight away. Also managed to get a very good second hand caliper, brake hose and master cylinder for a bargain price so fitted that too, now i have brakes!
https://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee125/carlosamillios/Bike/100_1343.jpg
Didnt have anyone to help so fitted the engine on my own. Quite easy to do as i have found. Lift the rear of the engine and put the rear mount in first, then just pivot the engine on the rear mount to mount the next, then bolt the brackets on and stick in the last mount, easy peasy.
This is how it looks at this very moment.

https://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee125/carlosamillios/Bike/100_1345.jpg
To get it running i need to:
Bolt clutch in properly.
Fit new throttle cable.
Order pod air filter.
Fill engine oil.
Fit WRC exhaust.
Order and fit chain & sprockets.
Check everything is plumbed in/bolted on properly.
Should have that little lot done by mid November, then just need to strip down the loom, get some rearsets (or mend the stock ones), fit crash protection, number boards, oil/overflow catch tank, fit quick action throttle and probably loads of other little bits that i cant think of at the moment. ____________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OPv5mDPQ14

Yea the two of them fell out since pete was the one doing all the work making the exhausts and tony couldn't do any of it but got half the money they made.
Sure he could still knock them up, he's working on his own now still making exhausts and other fabrication work.
Will get his no and pm you. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com
