First ride, first crash!

So I picked up my first bike today, beautiful and blue so she is with the sun shinning down on her. Pulled out of the lot and got home without a hitch even with driving through Croydon. Had some lunch and decided to take her out for a proper spin. The weather had decided to take a turn for the worse so I put my waterproofs on and headed south. After about 2 hours of driving round my leather doc martens were soaked through so I decided to head for home.

Came up against this set of large roundabouts and I must of done something stupid. I was getting a good lean on as I would with my pushbike but must of pulled too hard on the throttle or maybe was just leaning too much on the skinny tyres. Her back end slid out underneath me and I hit the ground skidding, Linda the lowsider (my bike) fucking landed on my calf, fat bitch.

So there I was in the middle of the outside lane. I got up dusted my self off, picked linda up and ran to the pavement. People stopped and a dude on a rs125 stopped to see if I was all good. I waved them on. Jumped on Linda and headed for the nearest driveway pulled in to check the damage. Scraped exhaust, top box, headlight frame and bent as fuck foot peg. Not fussed about that but the console has a massive crack down the middle of it and it's all wonky. Do they need to be water tight and is this going to ruin my electrics? All the meters are still reading okay.

So yeah that's it my second time ever on a motorbike and my first crash. Was awesome, learnt a good lesson and have a nasty limp to remind me of it. Don't accelerate while leaning in the wet on skinny as ybr tyres.

well luckily your okay amd not stuck to the tyres of a lorry.

Croydon can be hectic man, i came down in the rain when coming round the Big roundabout under the Croydon Flyover. Went tumbling. main things are:

when your cornering in the wet, no speed change. You make sure your at the correct speed when you enter the turn.

If you do need to accelerate, make sure you slip the clutch to make sure she accelerated smoothly rather than jolts forward.

If you need to slow down, use the brakes oh so gently.

Finally, try not to lean so much in the wet, because a soggy leaf, diesel spill, drain pipe, crisp packet, someone's dog, could all send your back wheel sliding out and you with your face in the tarmac!

Yeah was a great learning experience. Been out in the wet today, no problems. Got hill starts down I reckon. Tomorrow is the big test comute from Bromley to Kingston. Should be fun.

Congrats on surviving your first off. Shame the bike hasnt faired too well but at least the parts for the YBR are cheap enough to get a hold of.

Important lesson learnt about riding in the wet. Take it on board and next time take it easy in the wet. Rushing to get home because you are soaked is a recipe for disaster. Personally I'd rather arrive home soaking wet and alive than a little wet and dead
