idles higher when warm

hi.my lifan 125 custom idles higher after running for a few miles.it ticks over fine after a bit of choke first thing but if i go say to the next town [8 mile away] it will be ticking over faster.what do you think is up?

could be a number of things such as air leak on the intake or incorrect mixture. what sort of rpm difference are we talking about? What 125 is it?

Sounds normal to me. You should set the tickover speed when the engine is properly warmed up anyway, the next town sounds ideal.

Its because its warm...

I assume its not fuel injected, my old ybr used to idle real low when it was hot (e.g. after long ride in summer etc) because it could handle it, yet in the cold it would idle higher because it needed to else it would cut out.

If its carbed then it would just idle at what you've set it at. Set it when warm in the summer, but in winter id set it just a tad higher to help for the cold mornings etc.

Hiya, I've got a Baimo Renegade with the same engine as yours. Its a Chinese variant of the CG125 (FM156 I think is the official name) Although I've messed about with it considerably, including upgrading to 150cc, it idles at about 1200rpm. It needs full choke to start and to idle for about the first 2/3 miles, after which it will idle but a little too slowly, perhaps 1000 rpm. This time of year it does need about 6/8 miles to really warm up and idle smoothly.

Possibly an airleak caused by either dog$hit gaskets, or incorrectly torqued cylinder bolts.....

Hi i find small bikes often have some degree of fluctuation of idle speed like this....try not to worry about it its just part of the character of your bike. Sure you could get all frustrated and spend hours trying to sort it but whats the point? Just adjust it when you need to. If a 125 gets you from A to B its doing pretty much all that should be required of it!

It's normal on carbed bikes IME.

Set the idle speed when it's warm to 1.2-1.5k RPM (or whatever is appropriate). Then use your choke to fire it up and keep it revving before it warms up.

I have a bandit 600 1999 that idles high when hot, it's definitely not normal, 3000 ish when hot, 1200 when cold, checked carbs and airbox to some extent but not professional, went round checked all bolts, seem ok... Any ideas?
