Following quickly on the heels (pun intended) of the "How quick do you get it up thread"

How fast do you put the foot down? Do you have the foot down before you stop or as soon as you stop?

Personally its just before I come to a halt because knowing me I'd probably stop and forget to put my foot down if I tried to do it when I stop.

Could be simultaneously as i come to a stop. Not sure now.

Sometimes I try and get to a stop before I put my foot down. But that only makes me loose my balance and I end putting my right foot down Confused

Left foot, half a second after I stop.
When 2up, both feet ready before stopping.

God knows, I've never thought about it. As long as I put at least one down before falling over then it's all groovy.

I use the engine braking on the SV, so won't get my left foot down really early but I'll be ready as soon as I can! I rarely put my right foot down, as I tend to sit on the back brake! Sometimes if I know I'll be stopped for a bit or my left hand needs a wiggle then I'll kick into neutral as I approach the stop and get both feet down; I'll stop, but always get my left foot down first! Left foot down as I stop. Although there is one particular junction near me on a hill and the road slopes away to the left quite steeply, there I put my right leg down.

Since commuting into London I'm quite impressed at my slow speed controls and slipping the clutch / revs balance even when on the mahoosive Trumpet.

If I can help it I wont put my feet down as a sudden brake, touch down and pull away normally leads to a little jerky pull away or even stall. Embarassed

Quite late if wearing leathers, VERY early if wearing Jeans, I've got the jeans stuck in the little hanger thing ontop of the pegs quite a few times and on two occasions nearly fell off.

So I'm overly caution in trousers that have a tendency to get caught.

nothing worse then going to put a foot down and your shoe laces have caught on the shifter.... Shocked poo yourself moment if you do it late. when im wearing boots or trainers with loose laces i always come off the peg early. bet it leads to some funny lolz though seeing someone tipover, not nice on the bike or the knees i suspect though.

Thats happened to me in my boots. When I wear my work boots rather than my biker boots. Luckily enough it hasnt happened when I've been stopping. I tend to get into gear and then move my foot away from the shifter when I'm cruising.

On my old Z1's etc I sometimes used to lock the rear wheel, slide the back sideways into a parking spot while flipping out the sidestand with the left foot & come to a halt with the bike resting on the stand with both feet still on the pegs.. Cool

Haven't done that in a while tho....

Depends on the road surface and camber etc which foot I put down... but usually the right one under normal circumstances, and usually a simultaneous move just as the bike stops.

...although I make sure I have both feet hovering out to the sides if we're two up

Foot down before bike comes to a stop is easier for taller bikes for smaller people.

Took me ages to realise this, my first big bike was an ER5 and I always just sprung my feet down, only when I got a Z750 did I realise I needed to think about it a bit more.

Just as I'm about to stop. The heel goes down and I roll my foot onto the sole.

I nudge down into first as I am rolling to a stop, keep right foot up and brake, and put the left foot down pretty much the moment I stop. Cant keep a motorbike balanced when I stop. Smile

In my days despatching, you were considered a complete bender if you put your foot down when not absolutely unavoidable Laughing And so I learned to balance on hideous old crap like Plastic Maggots and Superdreams even at a standstill (for a few seconds at least). I rarely put my foot down on the RXS during a journey, but I've had 20 years of practice on that.

I can't say I notice things like that, other than than sometimes I try to stay with my feet up cos I'm convinced the light's about to go green, and I get cross when it doesn't, and I HAVE to put my feet down.
