 |
|
Lately I seem to be getting in to the habit of riding one-handed when I'm trundling along with light city traffic...
Just wondering, would this be classed as not being fully in control, or maybe even dangerous driving/riding??
As I see it, I've probably driven a car for hundreds or even thousands of miles over the years with only one hand on the wheel, but riding the bike it's obviously more noticeable to other road users, and to plod.
So is there anything specific that says I'm committing an offence?? ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

On a long trip I tend to rest my left hand when pootling on a straight 'easy' bit or through quiet 30mph areas; obviously clear of immediate hazards and traffic I'd be pretty fed up if I was prosecuted for this, but knowing how grumpy and pernickety Police seem to be these days, I reckon I'd stand a good chance of being fed up if I was 'caught' so I wouldn't do it in front of a PC knowingly for this reason!
I don't get cramped legs, as mine aren't long enough but the guys I ride with all seem to have cranky knees and need to have a leg stretch. ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

I got pulled by a bloody minded copper for taking my hand/s off the bike.
My arms were aching after a long ride and I took my left hand off the bars and gave it a rest down by my side.
I then did the same thing with my right hand as I went down a very mild slope.
My bad luck as the "blues & twos" started behind me!?? and I pulled over.
The copper gave me a lecture about how serious and dangerous my behaviour was
I could`nt be bothered to argue my side ie I was always in control and the only traffic around was me and him.
So I let him blah blah blah away until he got bored, and then I said "sorry orificer" .
the main issue for him was that I was not in full control of my bike so careless driving was mentioned
Anyway he must of got bored, as he said I could go without any further action being taken (so very kind of him). ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

So it seems to be a fairly widely done riding habit...
Everyone knows it's not exactly DAS test standard riding, but as long as you're sensible (and you're not unlucky enough to meet Judge Dredd in a Police uniform) it should be OK??

I regularly rest my left hand on the tank in light traffic. Quite often put my feet up onto the crash bungs for a few minutes for a change of position too ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

This is, of course, another thing that tends to pertain to scooter riders and sports bikers.
Along with tailgating, pointless overtaking, excessive revving, etc.
Proving my theory that chavs on mopeds and sports bikers, in many cases, are peas in a pod.
Lets face facts, the hand on knee sports bike look, is just a pose. It's a look-at-me: I've so such power I don't even need to bother with gears. If you realy are uncomfortable, perhaps you need to get a more comfortable bike? Just a thought. ____________________ no regrets, no retreat, no apology.
