Okay, so i'm missing the great 2 stroke smell in the morning, the lovely sound of 10k rpm, and the wondefull power band of my old 2 stroke.
I WANT ANOTHER ONE!! .
Anyone think of a good old classic 2 stroke project i can get my hands on for not alot of cash?
Specs must be:
2 stroke,
more than one cylinder,
cheap,
under 33bhp,
good looking,
Simple as. any one got any ideas ? |

Bold ones when combined make it a bit harder, since most of the multi pot strokers I can think of were putting out at least 40bhp ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

Hi
RD250LC is close on power (think 35hp claimed, so 33hp is probably more realistic), but not really counting as cheap these days. Probably leaves things like an air cooled RD250 or an X7. Anything newer than the RD (such as the KR250, RG250 or MVX250) is likely to be well over 33hp (certainly claimed).
Or if you could have a single then maybe a Gilera NGR250, or a Yamaha SDR200.
If you ignore the 33hp bit then the TZR250 is pretty good compromise between power and reliability. Same for the RG250, but spares for those seem to be getting difficult.
All the best

Why multi cylinder out of interest?
Suspect older 250s would be the ones to go for (wrote before lots of people said the same ).
You can get old dirt bikes for very reasonable amounts of money.
The KTM350 I had certainly had that 2 stroke 'zing' - a 350cc 2 stroke with no powervalve meant a decent kick when it went on-pipe.
Mine cost me £350 generally working, but would have needed a bit of work for MOT. Get some SM rims laced on and you could have a very fun road bike! |

Two strokes can have many different sounds depending on a lot of different factors. My new KTM easily sounds like 3 different bikes depending on where you are in the rev-range - to the point I kept checking behind me on idle going down hills to see if there was another rider trying to get past . |

? You could always do what a friend of mine did ?
He took an old Jawa 350 twin and did a heap of work on it.
This included smoothing out the ports and chamfering thier edges very mildly, getting a better & rejetted carb, expansions, better rear shocks, japanese forks, japanese front wheel, disc`s & caliper, electronic ignition (Boysen I think?).
He did it because he had most of the "stuff" needed lying around in his garage or shed
It was never a threat to an RD or a KH, but it did suprise a few people
I hav`nt seen him in years but I`m sure it still lives in the back of his shed ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

It's possibly a US spec RD250B with a YDS7 / R5 tank and YR5 barrels. Reasonably horrible unless super cheap. ____________________ 18:54:48 Rob Fzs: jews don't give away stuff for free

I fell lucky on a Suzuki GT250 X7 for £300.
Spent some £200 ontop of that to get it upto a point im happy with mechanicaly.
Can buy that off me if you wish....but itll be a damn sight more than £500! ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600
