Price difference, Fireblade : ER-5

Sold my Hornet in order to free up some cash for a car, now I'm bored with the ER-5 and considering a quick bike again.

It's more the question of running costs, I'm on £400 a month (will go up soon with my new job), I study at college also.

Just trying to work out if it will cost much more to run a 98/99 Fireblade over my 2004 ER-5?

It will go through tyres quicker, tax is more expensive and depending on how you ride it will cost more for fuel.

Not sure how muh a 'blade would cost but reckon you have more chance of things needing doing on a 'blade and when they do (i.e. tyres, c+s) will be a lot more.

Insurance has got to be a fair bit more too, I always try and wait till Im at the end of one policy before changing as it gets expensive otherwise (insurance companies are terrible at giving refund half-way through).

It wouldn't be my primary transport either now I have the car, the Hornet was expensive to service as I don't have the patience or time to do it myself, I sold it just before the 16k.

The other thing that has me thinking is the price difference, my ER-5 has a touch under 10k miles on the clock, and I'd probably sell it for £1300, I'd have to pay an extra £400 to get a blade with 27k on the clock that is 6 years older.

I do however appreciate the blade is a much better build and will probably out last my ER-5 to death

I have 3 years NCD so I don't expect it to be that bad. I'd be interested in an older CBR600F too.

I ride the bike 2 days a week minimum for the college run, I'd still be using it through winter too for those 2 days, never rode anything bigger than a 500 twin through snow.

Not too sure if its similar on the older blades, but looking at the price of consumables for newer ones, it looks like it'll be expensive, at least more than my cbr6. I'd imagine if you are getting it serviced by a garage then the labour would be similar to the hornet, maybe a tad more (they can charge 10-30mins for just taking fairings off).

RSV1000 pretty low on insurance and has decent power. Not sure on running costs

I used to have an ER-5 and it cost peanuts to run, but then it's performance was not exactly mind blowing.

I upgraded to a Bandit 600 which was a fair performance increase over the ER-5 but then you start having properly expensive tyres and two sets of brake pads on the front etc

I then moved onto a ZX6R which was better on fuel than the Bandit and probably cost similar amounts to run. Insurance cost me £401 TPFT at the time

Now I am on a ZX9R which is a bit more expensive than the 600 to run (not insurance wise as I was 19 when I got my ZX6R and I am 25 now with 4 years NCD so only costs £270 FC)
