I've seen a cracking 2-piece suit I like in Hein Gericke, but, I have a dilema you see, 'cause I'm losing weight just now and I don't really want to fork out £260 for a suit that (hopefully) won't fit me in say 6 months time!!!

My question is - is it possible to have leathers taken in or is that just another down-right stooooopid question from me?!?! Confused

Zak Leathers in Northampton do alterations to leathers.
I bought a men's 2 piece a while back and she put in some stretch panels on the hips to accomodate my girly bum (no sniggering please!).
I'd recommend them to anyone. Might be worth phoning them before you buy the leathers though to see how much it would be to have them taken in.
Good luck with the weight loss! Thumbs Up Very Happy

Just make sure you buy the tightest fitting leathers you can. (Within reason). They'll stretch a little after a while and you really need them to be tight fitting if they are to work properly in the event of an off. I've noticed some of the suits at Hein Gericke don't actually include the armour at that price. Make sure that it does obviously.

As cath said, it is possible to alter leathers. Might need to look around for one locally for you. There should be plenty. There's even a guy through here in Edinburgh that does biker leather repairs. He's really good.

Leather stretches (bike leathers are unstretched hide, as opposed to casual wear), so buying before weightloss is not the best of ideas.

Leather can be repaired, altered etc but may not be ideal.

Since your learning, and expect to change size, why not get some decent fabric stuff that you can wear with a belt, and then move on to leathers later?

Although from the size of you in the xmas pic, you haven't got that much to lose, and they wouldn't need much alteration if you did.

If anyone needs leathers repaired/altered in the Reading area, gve me a shout and I'll pass on a number of a great wee place.

I've got a good Frank Thomas fabric jacket, but I can't see sh*te but I want a bit and this suit is luvverly!!!

At the moment I'm just wearing thick denims and Cat Boots with that and my Frank Thomas gloves, so I might even get a cheap-ish pair of leather troosers in the meantime!! Or I might say sod-it and buy this suit - can't find it on the net or I'd post a piccie!!!

If you dont mind losing a bit of money, get them and just sell them when it comes to downsizing. Good luck with the weight loss.

My reputation depends on it Wink

Sounds like your first port of call would be a decent pair of boots. I'm assuming your cats have laces? Bit of a no-no for a learner, that one.

Get yersel a decent pair of boots, and you can decide what ye want to do with yer leathers.

But in my opinion a full set of race look leathers is a bit silly pootling along at 20mph on a bike with L plates.

I agree with Shade on this one, wearing full race leathers on a 125 can look abit stupid sometimes, but each to there own, after all I wear full matching leathers and lid on a GS500!

Proper bike boots to me are a priority as they can save your ankles and your legs and start as cheap as £50 for a basic pair and about £90 for a decent waterproof and decent looking pair!

Agreed, however, safety first hey?

In my day, the "new romantic" days, wearing jeans, white socks, pink shoes and a denim jacket was the cool thing to wear on your bike. LOL, if I had worn leathers I would have been laughed off my bike! Laughing

Why the hell am I sharing this information with you..... Brick Wall

Not to be mistaken, I wasn't advocating jeans etc. I wear leathers all the time, did so while learning. But they are black leathers that anyone can wear at any time.

I just think wobbling around on L plates while wearing expensive racing leathers with hump etc is a bit.... daft Smile

lol, i wouldnt wear a hump even now! I'd look stupid poodling along at 60! Laughing
Sorry didnt mean to offend, just meant that i wore jeans on my CBT and fell off and it hurt like hell and i had a melon knee for 3 weeks! Even on my 125 i wore black leathers after that. I guess we learn from our experiences.

I don't find full leathers with a racing hump looks gay, i only wear them when i ride in the weekend RS's don't do 60mph i have had 105 out of it, so if i came out at that speed i wont feel the pain of road rash before hitting something and dieing, thats why i have cut down my Ls so it doesn't look 2 gay with full leathers and Ls, i don't wobble around corners nor stick 2 any speed limits like 60mph.

Remember the hole point of leathers, the amour on them and humps are there for 1 reason and 1 reason only. to keep all the bits of you on you and not the road and all bits in one piece!

Just for the record, these aren't full racing leathers, they're the ladies range - more stylish looking than racing (go on call me a poser) I will try and get a picture!

They're just black with a faun stripe down the side of the jacket and the trousers are the same - they are lovely - honest!!!!

But I do hear what you're saying about boots, I'm going out to get a pair this weekend. I was out looking for some last weekend, but couldn't find any I liked. I want ones that have a little bit of a heel on them, I've seen a pair advertised like that, so I'm going over there at the weekend!!

Hope that meets with your approval Shade Wink

I would recommend some textiles, if you have an off from an NS in textiles you'll still be fine, they generally cost less than leathers, and are more comfy.

You can always get a set of leathers too, but you'll want the textiles for cold weather.

I bought the Nexus Evo Textiles from H-G and they are great and are fully armored (even a back protector) for £250 ish for the set.

Not my first choice but I found that my legs were too short for a lot of the leathers and the knee protector tended to be a shin guard !
