Earlier this morning i was sat at lights on my CBF125.. and some chav on one of those aprillia replica things pulled up next to me...
From the sound it was putting out, i thought it was a 50cc... very small exhaust and it really did sound LOUD but weak...

Anyway, lights changed and he f*cking shot off in front of me!?
I hated my bike for a good 10 minutes afterwards.. how is that possible!?

Someones just told me if it was 2-stroke then it could be faster!?

I'm still upset. I must pass my test now and get that CBR600 and find the little bastard again...

It will be an RS125. It is possible because the RS125 makes more power than your bike and it's a 2 stroke.

Pretty much 2 strokes rule.

Who cares who if someone has a faster bike than you? Don't be hating the bike. There's nothing wrong with it.

It probably isn't an issue just now on the CBF125, but that attitude could land you in some trouble. Learn to accept that people will always have faster vehicles than you or just may be a faster rider. It may be that they can drive safely at speed, or that they have less concern for their own and other peoples health than you.

It's a road, not a racetrack.

2 stroke de restricted looking at 20-25bhp, compared to your 13 or 14bhp... thats why.

If it was restricted, maybe he just had a much better start.

The RS bikes are nothing short of race tuned 2 strokes with lights on. A cbf is just a standard 4 stroke 125. Off the lights the RS will take off like its shot out of a barrel but you'll find that you'd claw the lead back again pretty sharpish if you tried.

I wouldnt let it get you down. You can rest in the knowladge that he'll have expensive engine fixes when it blows up because the chav hoked the shit out of it where as your lowly cbf can be ridden all day, dropped off a clif and then shot with a cannon and still be ridden home with no damage done to the engine.

A decent RS50 can pwn a CBF125 off the lights with a lightweight rider Laughing

I could run faster off the lights but I'd fall over with heart falure long before the bike catches me 10 meters down the road Laughing

Indeed i was pwned. I still love my bike - your 100% right, it has a look of "I'll just keep going, and going, and going"... However i just felt a bit stupid cause when he pulled up and i heard the hairdryer like engine goin at it, i thought i'd have him!

Well he showed me. Its fine, i'll find him one day and pwn the shit out of him!

And @David, It was quite early this morning and i wouldn't pull my throttle back without being certain i'm not going to plough into anything.
I completely understand your POV safety is always at the front of my mind on my bike.. However i didn't just buy my bike to cut through traffic.. I bought it for the thrill of riding one too.

Point taken though mate, however - i AM going to toast that lad one day Razz

A 2 stroke 125, or even a well treated 50 is going to thrash you away from the lights - it's why they are prized. Don't be surprised if they still beat you off of the lights when you are on a CBR because they will have a hideous power/weight ratio.

However the engine rebuild every 20k miles has always put me off.

That is the sound of power, not the dull thud of a 4 stroke.

All the best

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with enjoying your motorcycle and riding fast. I really think it's something that should be done solo though and not racing random people you don't know. The last time I did that, the guy in the BMW X5 was willing to go close to 3 figures in the middle of Glasgow. I decided I didn't want anything to do with that. I got beat and there's no shame in that. I didn't want to die or kill anyone, but if the guy in the X5 did then I would also be responsible.

I'm just saying, there are some arseholes out there who couldn't care less about their own life or anyone elses, and as a result they cannot be beaten unless they kill themselves.

I personally prefer the sound of my bike.. You may think its a thud but i think it sounds more like a motorcycle.. less like a push-bike with an aluminium can jammed on the rear tyre...

Each to their own Cool And in all fairness he did beat me! Hey, mine will last longer and is more fuel efficient i guess Razz

Very well said, i completely agree mate. I guess i haven't had that particular issue due to me being on the before-mentioned-125 Razz

Get a shot of a decent 2 stroke like an unrestricted RS125 and your opinion will probably be slightly different.

The reason why people associate the noise of a 2 stroke with being slow is because of the 50cc 2t scooters.

I give you a "push bike with an aluminium can jammed on the rear tyre":

^^^^ This ^^^^

Problem really is you are comparing a commuter, with a very light race bike with lights on, the RS125 is stupidly quick for a 125, and then they hit sort of 7krpm and take off like a rocket.

Don't be surprised an RS beat you, you will soon pass him at great speed when his engine has blown up, or it has just decided not to work.

But the RS125 is an awesome bike and being two stroke it is full of hard amounts of win, I can live with all the strimmer jokes about my RS, but one comment I got from someone following me on an R6 was
"That thing is fucking fast"

However you have to deal with the running costs on an RS125 as opposed to the running costs of a CBF125.

CBF125, start it, put petrol in and go
RS125, take seat off, check it has good fully synth 2stroke oil in it, if not fill it up, run it on higher octane fuel, use the correct spark plug, check the oil regularly, they really are a high maintenance machine as opposed to a four stroke low powered bike, then when it breaks parts aren't the cheapest nor easy to get hold of, everything I have bought for mine is 7-10 days back order

While forgetting that a 50cc 4t scooter is so slow that it doesn't get anywhere to be heard.

Actually, rather a lot short. It weighs a lot more than a race bike and makes a lot less power Wink. However, it does make a lot more power than what's basically a push bike with a diesel engine, or as the OP considers it a 'real' bike Razz.
But then it depends if you buy a bike for the riding or for the sound of a slow bike Razz.

Pits: pretty sure the RS has an oil light. All the road 2 strokes I've had have, including the RS250. You need to use the correct spark plug for the 4 stroke and probably should check the engine oil more often as it takes more abuse. The rs isn't really that high maintenance. You don't need to use high octane fuel for it if I remember.
The only negatives I can see really, which you haven't listed, is worse fuel economy and they don't suffer idiots so well - though they will be cheaper to rebuild than the 4 stroke when it does go wrong.

Depends on the model. Early ones (Rotax 123 engine, 34mm carb) do claim to require it. Think from the late 1990s they dropped the compression and / or retarded the ignition so they could use normal unleaded petrol.

All the best

Few years ago, I filtered to teh front of a queue of traffic at a T-Junction. Sat next to an inociouse Mondeo, wating for a gap.
Saw it, unleashing about 70% of the available grunt of a thousand cc V4, to save tyres and tarmac, only to be rather purturbed by the impudence of the bludy modeo man trying to take the same (small!) gap accross the cross-roads and MORE actually trying to shut the door on me!
I was SO stunned by such temerity I backed off and let him through...
Only THEN did I see the lettering ST24 on the back.....
Had to ask what it meant when I got to work....
It had only just been launched!
Had a similar experience about ten years earlier on the M42 when coming onto the entrance ramp from the right, a white Sierra with 'stupid' spoiler on the back entered from the left, and attempted to out-drag us all the way to the NEC!
Of course, it was one of the early release 'Wale-Tail' Cosworths
Moral of the Story, JUST 'cos your on a bike, dont expect to be the quickest thing away from the lights... even if your on a very quick bike..... there's always SOMETHING out there to catch you unawares!

Must admit I've learnt quite a bit from this thread...

I always thought a 50cc... was a 50cc and they were shit and slow and noisey and good for nothing. I stand corrected!

My CBF is still better though.. and no doubt my bike is more attractive to girls Cool
