I love it

Wow that does look very tasty. Was that the Silver ball on the A10 on the way to Royston by any chance?

I would rather see it near to standard, but I would rather see a GT750 lump and spannies like that being used rather than sitting in a shed Thumbs Up

If that was mine, it would live in the house Smile .

Not quite in the same league, but I had five different GT250`s in my early biking life and I loved them Thumbs Up

Hi

It was at the Stafford show over the weekend.

To me if just doesn't look right. Like the Harley school of styling (playing lucky dip in bins of parts to see what the result looks like).

All the best

Keith

Horrible imo, especially the seat unit.

Much rather have a good standard one with a set of spannies on.

I wonder if any of the big companies making bikes have considered making a modern large two-stoke ? for the road.

I`ll bet with all the modern know-how and the advance in oils and materials, they could get it past emission laws, possibly? maybe?

That would be something, oh the tuning potential Smile Smile

Probably but it would cost a shed load of money. With 4 strokes they can just use cheap and common research from the large car market rather than having to develop something from scratch.

Direct fuel injection 2 strokes can work well enough (Ford had a fleet of dfi 2 stroke petrol engined Fiestas floating around well over a decade ago), but getting it to work at decent rpm (for bikes) might well be an issue.

All the best

It looks like the bike equivalent of an E-Type jag fitted with alloys and 'lexus lights'

Aw crap, I missed that one at the Stafford show, should have kept my eyes open.

To be honest, I was too busy drooling over one in the main building. A green Kawaski turbo bike that I cannot remember the name of. Awesome show too...

Hi

Assuming you mean the ZZR14 turbo then that kettle was only about 20m away at most.

All the best

Yes, thats the one, cheers Keith. Loved all the restoration jobs there too. Managed to pick up a pair of boots for £35 and an extra pair of trousers for £25. Gotta love them bargains.

I like the idea of updating old bikes in a subtle but effective way to make them handle, brake and go better but personally I reckon that one has gone a little too far.
Why the gsxr seat unit? Looks totally unmatched to the side panels and tank, the swingarm looks too bulky for it too, forks over the top and does it really need those tyre sizes?
Personally I think its nicer when the changes are more subtle and less immediately noticeable myself though that's obviously been done well. I like the engine paint.

KTM and Gas Gas still 2 stroke make enduro bikes up to 300cc which can easily (at least for the KTM, not so up on Gas Gas) converted to supermoto use.
50hp or so and 103kg no-fuel weight isn't too bad especially with electric start! KTM can have the power delivery easily tweaked with powerband configuration amongst other things too.

If 500hp/tonne isn't enough for you, then talk to Maico that claims up to 80hp from a 700cc 2 stroke single; with the SM version weighing in at a claimed 101kg.
https://www.maicointernational.com

I like 2 strokes, but only when they are actually offering something a 4 stroke isn't - ie you could probably artificially make a new 4 stroke have the revvy feel of a 2 stroke; so don't see any great reason to buy an old slightly-powerful 2 stroke with a relatively terrible chassis.

But that would never approach the beautiful simplicity of 2-stroke engines, the main reason they endured for so long was simply that and the obvious advantage they have in terms of power production.
There is something raw and honest about 2-stroke engines that you can't find elsewhere.
Personally I like the feel as much as the sound of them, and the fact that you need to get to know them mechanically, they're very hands on.

Power production isn't really relevent these days for road bikes though.
And I'd say 'get to know them' could be said the same for other bikes that are in a fairly high state of tune for their time. These days the competition 2 stroke dirt bikes need less work than the 4 strokes - one of the reasons there's a bit of a resurgence in them.
The 'feel' can vary rather a lot too, I'd suggest.
Some can be very flat, others pretty 'commuterish' and some really revvy. Revvy ones tend to have a more distinctive hit than 4 strokes and the flat ones can actually be flatter than similar 4 strokes too. So I don't think you can really pigeon hole the 'feel' personally.

You can simply feel and hear the bare bones of the engine far more than you ever do with 4 strokes though, they're completely different especially with air cooled motors.
Its the simplicity and the fact that they work very well for what they are that makes them special.

I agree!
I think the special would have looked far better with a 2:4 giulliari style seat personally than that hideous gsxr rear end bolted on and maybe even retain the standard chrome mudguard cut to suit.
Preferaby some spoked alloy rims too.
Love the sound these triples make!

I'd ride that just for the sound! Sounds completely unique, lovely cackle on the overrun.

I think without the GSXR seat unit it would look good.
