A friend's neighbour has a Firebalde and he told me to cut my exhaust down like his so it sounds better. I was just wondering if it affects power and I need to re jet.

I know nothing of mechanics BTW, but my boss has a garage with all the tools to weld and stuff if I choose to do so.

I have a BlueFlame Evo 3

I wouldn't mind a louder sound Smile

And all the usual hassle of noise and complaints to/by police

No power advantage worth the chop.

Don't need to weld anything. A drill, a hacksaw and a few rivets is all you need.

Often you lose some engine braking too.

I made a "custom" (shorter) for my CG when I first got my welder.

I cut a section out and then welded the two ends back together again.
It worked on the bike but was louder and the bike popped and banged on over-run.

It was only and old gash pipe that I had lying around and I only did it to see if I could Smile

Okay so you can lose top end :o

Not sure if I ever will hit 160 (indicated) that often, but some reason I still want my bloody top end! LOL. I haven't even come close to 160 yet!

I suppose the neighbours will hate the noise, but I work 9-6 so usually only leave and get home at sensible times.

As for the police, quite a few follow me, and I have been stopped twice since I got the bike which is probably late Sept. I guess I don't want to give something that they can do me.

Try not to leave slack in the security chain or leave the lock exposed to hammer blows.

Was tempted to do the same to mine, decided against it as it is loud enough as it is.

Why not Wall?

I thought it it was loose they couldn't just bang it down because the chain would move and take the force off?

Decided not to get it cut, but the guy who told me to do it said he knows a mechanic who can do it for 30 quid.

I didn't realise you lose power

Imagine trying to hit something that is lying on a hard surface (the ground). It's two solid objects with a weak point (the lock in between the ground and the hammer).

If it's up in the air then it is much harder to attack because the hammer will likely slip off it and it'll be moving all over the place. Also, it's much harder to cut a chain when it's off the ground because of bad access etc.

I'll go out and take a photo of what you should do with your almax chain cover so that you can secure your bike better.

EDIT:

Cut down the sheath down one side so that you are exposing half of the chain links. Cabletie it to one of the links so it doesn't ravel up like this:

https://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/david_m213/DSC00503.jpg?t=1287574805

The reason for keeping one side covered is that the side that's covered gets pulled through your wheel etc, giving it a bit of protection from scratching etc.

https://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a324/david_m213/DSC00504.jpg?t=1287574900

You can then shorten the chain to keep it off the ground like in this picture. This will make it much harder to attack the padlock and chain, and in theory, the less likely it will be broken. (eg, instead of having 20 links to attack, hoping for a weak one, they now only have a choice of 8.

Ah I see what you did there.

Very good idea, you are right that it's damn hard to break through a chain and lock that can not be hammered on the ground.

Will have a look in a sec.

I stubbied the Scorpion can on my Blade and found no issues whatsoever and the sound is great.

The good thing with mine is that it still remains quiet sub 5k revs and comes alive above 5k.

Handy when the rozzers are around.

Took me about an hour to do.
