Hey folks just pondering what way people who have both car and bike licenses obtained them.

Did bike first and then car when I had some more time.

No option for both before 21? I know a fair few people managed both before 21.

In hindsight bike at 17 worked out for me but a car license is of more use than bike (as can be used for work etc).

really got in to biking through circumstances could never afford to buy and run a car at 17/18 so went through bike stuff. did restricted test at 19 as it worked out the same as waiting and doing the direct access. past my car test last year at 23 when i could afford to.
now the bike is used solely for pleasure which is unfortunately very little because of shift work.

Bike at 17, car at 18.

As Andy said, car licence is more useful than bike, but I only drive a car for work. I'm not willing to spunk all my money on insurance so I can sit in traffic.

I wanted a bike for years, but parents said they wouldn't buy me one, or pay for a license. So they paid for me to do my car license. I have now sold the car, and use a bike as sole means of transport.

I did my bike test when I was 17 and a half, and began doing driving lessons shortly after, I passed when I was 18, and 2 months ago bought my first car, which I think helped my insurance as I've had the licence for longer.

So I advise you to do them both if you can, regardless of your intentions of buying a big bike / car.

Did bike at 22 and car at 24.
Always advice people to do both as soon as possible to anyone asking, however.

Bike at 17, car at 23.

Was mainly down to money, wasn't paying £3k for insurance at 17 on a Fiesta when I could have 500cc bike for a 3rd of the price.

I got bored after 5 winters freezing my bollocks off though and got a car. Gave up riding in 2007 and not looked back since, although I am on the prowl for an off road bike or maybe a track bike if I can afford it and the track days.

Just wish I'd had the foresight to do the bike test when it was £50 and a ride round the block...didn't know that by ignoring it like a lot of other bikers it would catch me up eventually and bite me in the bum, financially!!! Rolling Eyes

Got me car licence at 16 (in NZ you can be younger)
But I had to admit to being half blind, so I had to go and get some glasses first Laughing

But you can ride up to a 250cc bike on a car licence over there, so I didn't bother with me bike licence til WAY much later, when I lived over here.

I think I did my CBT when I was 37 or 38, and passed me full bike test when I was 40. In fact, I passed it a few weeks after my 40th birthday cos I failed the first test which was scheduled on the day AFTER my 40th ... and that was even without a hangover, LOL
