Thought I'd add to the several "I've passed" threads!! Just feel like shouting it from the rooftops! 2 minors, apart from that, handled it like a pro Wink Best advice I could give to anyone else taking their Mod 2 is get out there and learn the test routes. I didn't on my first attempt and failed for missing a speed limit. No repeats this time though, as I spent all last week driving around Newport.

Think I might be smiling for the next week! Very Happy

Hopefully I'll be feeling what you're feeling tomorrow around 10am. Taking Mod 2 in Enfield - No idea what to expect and haven't had chance to look around the area.

Gonna be taking my MOD2 in Newport. In what areas did you fail? Are there speed signs but you just missed them?

Yeah there were signs, but totally missed them. Was sure there weren't any until I went back and saw them for myself. Apparently there's 12 new routes since the new test was introduced. Independent riding was a piece of piss as all I had to do was take one right, then a left, the follow the ringway bypass to the city centre. Are you having lessons or do you already know the test routes? If not let me know and I'll tell you most of the roads used.

Even though I don't know Newport, I think that I shouldn't have too much of a problem. Touch Wood. Doing my MOD1 there this Thursday, Soiling my pants I am!

I am learning myself. I live Near Cardiff.

Don't fret too much, Neil (the guy I had for my mod 2 both times) was a really nice guy. The other examiner (who did my mod 1) was also quite forgiving and let me redo my emergency stop as I didn't stop quickly enough on the first go.

If you're close to Newport I'd recommend getting round the streets a bit. There's lots of speed changes and you can only use certain bus lanes.

I'm from machen, it'a about 25 minutes away from the test centre. It was a bit of a pain in the arse riding there in the cold last week, well worth it though Very Happy

The centre of town isn't, but Ringway, Alway and Christchurch, where most of the test routes take place are quite hilly.

The link below is all the main test roads. Defo worth a look on google street view, even if you can't make it to newport.

Cheers! not sure on a bike yet. I fancy something adventurey, maybe a something like a BMW GS, Yamaha Tenere or Honda transalp or africa twin. I'm not really the sports bike type. I'm gonna go have a look at some bikes and see what I think. If anyone has any suggestions in that area, let me know!

Technically I do have a bike, but a CG125 don't count now that I'm unrestricted! Very Happy

Hmm, was just looking through that google maps. I can't find a speed limit sign anywhere :O. What are the normal speed limit in the bigger roads such as that one from the test centre, and the right after the bridge ? :O

We share the same tastes in bike then. I like the look of the sports bikes but I'm acutely aware that I look like Krusty on his trike sat astride one and that I'm infinitely more comfortable in a more upright position.

The Versys is comfortable and getting good reviews (if you're thinking about new) and if you're thinking about budget I've seen some KLE 500s cheap lately. It's a bit of a compromise on something like a Tenere or a GS but the prices are cheap.

Out of the test centre the limit is 30. If you take a left at the lights it goes from a 30 to a 40 just before you go over the bridge and remains a 40 all along the road where you turn right after the bridge. If you go straight on at the lights it's 30. If you go right at the lights, the limit changes to 50 very quickly.

Yellow = 40mph zone
Red = 50mph zone

On both tests I did the entire length of the 50mph road (Ringland bypass). I was told that this happens on the majority of tests, so make sure you get up to 50 on this road. Most of the 20mph zones have speed bumps on them, so they're easy to tell. As far as I remember only one 30mph road has speed bumps on and that's beechwood road (Right off Chepstow road, it's very steep and quite twisty)
