Would definitely recommend the RXS over an old CG. However for touring, maybe something with a bit more grunt like a CB250 would better. The moment I hit a straight road on the RXS things get irritating, as 70mph is as fast as you can go with your head on the tank, on a LONG stretch.
Looks good with luggage though

Rules say 125cc
An RXS100, on a straight road for hours and hours and hours at high revs, wont that screw a 2-smoke ?
I did that on my rs125 years ago, it was never the same again.
Not that i care, but i do kinda wanna get home, throwing the bike in a river is a proper last resort. ____________________ Ducati 1299 Panigale

Go for an XR125, toured on mine and loved every moment!

that was from my last tour.
Iv brought some panniers for it which will make loading and unloading a lot faster and easier. ____________________ TS50 (sold) NS125F (sold) NSR125R-K (write off after 2 crashes) CG125 (nicked) XR125L-3 (Sold )-: ) DR125SM '11 (sold yay) XL125V '12 (In love with this bike) XT600E '04 (fun on the dirt) |

Push bike panniers work great on it too.
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/photo001.jpg
I used to do Portsmouth to East London in it which involved long periods on the A3 it has never missed a beat mechanically the only things I had done to it where indicator lense and brake lever after it was pushed over new battery gearbox oil change and new airfilter. When the headstock bearings needed doing was about the same time I got the Speed Four so it was left.
If I was going on this trip I would do a top end rebuild I don't know when it was done last but no noises and it still can hit the red line in top gear. Beside it already has a gasket set and a top end kit is under £20 on ebay.
I would change the headstock bearings - £30
Change the brake shoes - They probably don't need it but I have a set.
Change the rear possibly both tyres. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

You wont be able to pick a XR125 up for under £400, for touring l would get a CG125, YBR125 with the CB125t being my first choice if l can get a good one as there the most powerful of the coummter 125,s before the learner BHP limt was brough in.
Where were you thinking of touring to? ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

get a chinese 125 - your desire for some mechanical work on the way is then bound to be satisfied.
actually that might not be a bad thing - might help on the perennial "are chinese bikes any good" subject... |

Got a lovely c90 that would be on-budget ... but I think I'd try for an old CB125T, or a 2 stroke like an NS125 or similar.
I've got the embryo of a plan to arrange a tour involving buying a brand new 'Hero Honda' or similar bike in India and riding it back to the UK.
Top of the range 230cc or something bike comes in just over £1k (lower down a lot cheaper) I think and most of them get pretty good fuel economy, often based on standard engines and are a fair bit better than the Chinese unofficial copies I believe. |

This is a good point, especially if you plant to ride at night. |
Bah! Just got back from a midnight ride down some unlit country lanes, the lights on the RXS are perfectly adequate...
My RXS has done 32k as of earlier today, and is mechanically sound as far as I can tell However how do you tell when the headstock bearings need doing? I think my top end (and rest of the engine) is fine, as it'll redline in top gear. The engine has always sounded a bit rattly...but I guess that's just 2 strokes...I wish I had something to compare to... ____________________ Riding: BMW R1150RT `02 bought mildly crashed
