Gilera DNA 50 reviews/opinions?

this is my Gilera Dna 50 i got it july 10. its recently had an engine rebuild and 20,000 miles although its sound like a bag of spanners its actually a nice ride. unfortunatly in wolverhamton on the ring road on tuesday night it was quite damp and stupidly i took no notice of what was on the road, oil/diesel my bike slipped as i went down with it :') no major injuries just a hurting arm :') i cant say the same for the bike though Sad Sh*t happens ay haha

Looks like a nice bike, although I can't see any damage in the photo...I guess it's from before the crash. How bad is the damage?

If I'd started riding at 16, which I guess you are from the fact you have a 50 I would probably have ended up with something like this. Are you planning on going straight for your test at 17 or getting a 125?

I notice alot of people dislike the DNA , personally i think they are really good for a 50cc probly the best available. As they can teach you so much due to the amount of modification you can do to them i got mine to reach a good 60mph when hugging the tank. It used to really get to the cager's when i over took them (thats always a good thing in my books). Only point i might make is dont blink or someone will steal it had mine stolen not once but twice havnt had it back since the second time Sad heres a few pics anyway since its show and tell yours is in much bettter condition though

no thats it before the crash sorry, the damage isnt that bad since i was only doing 20 round the ring round but still there damage to the exhaust front brake lever snapped off which ive justed replaced and also my right footpeg is quite stiff and im in need of a new indicator lense but you cant buy them look on ebay so looks like a new set of indicators which are about 30quid so not that bad, luckily the paintwork is not scratched which is the best part of the bike since all other dna's ive seen are not in the condition mine is (most are battered tbh) and yeah im actually looking for an Aprilia RS125 or Honda CBR125 or Gilera SC125 or Yamaha YZF-R125 can't really make my mind up lol Smile

I had to replace my indicators for my DNA 50, got a good carbon fibre look a like pair from street bike for £15 ....think they had 20 LED's in way really nice Smile

I'd advise against the RS125 and SC125 as they're 2-stroke and notoriously unreliable. If you've got the cash I'd get the Yamaha, but the CBR is also a great bike.

Personally I'd go for a 125 commuter and waiting until you pass your test to get something that looks and is actually fast. So Suzuki GN125, Yamaha YBR125 and Honda CG125 or CBF125.

edit: Before you say anything, yes my bike is 2-stroke. However it's not a highly tuned stroker so it's very reliable.

i have a gilera sc... not had any problems yet ? do you know of any common faults?

Seizing for no real reason seems to be the general fault...

The Aprilia is primarily the one I hear bad things about. However the Derbi GPR125 (which I though was the same as the Gilera) is also a highly tuned 2 stroke so will most likely have similar issues.

Honestly, I've never owned one but 4 strokes are probably going to be less trouble on the whole.

When ive finished my project gilera sc i might sell it for a 4t version.

4 stroke? how boring.

If its a 50/125cc, its gotta be a 2 stroke, the kick of the powerband, the wonderful smell, the smoky start up, the high pitched noise, the fact they cover themselves in oil and drink oil/fuel.

I love strokers as much as the next guy. However highly tuned race rep bikes that might seize up at any moment are just not what you need when learning to ride.

If you ant a stroker get an RXS like me Razz
