Anyone done it? Obviously all the weight will be on one side.

Big no-no?

Shall I just get a fat bloke to sit on the other side to balance it? Or shall I just take both of my bikes everywhere.

More bikes can't hurt, especially as you don't know if they're going to explode!

I've only ever used 2 bike trailers that you can move one of the sides to the middle.

Suspect it'll depend on the trailer quite a lot.

It's not recommended on most of the twin bike trailers because of the weight difference.

If you're able to move the strips along then it's fine, otherwise not sure I'd fancy chancing it unless you can put a load of bricks on the other side. Laughing

This is the one I'm thinking of, it's not too far from me. Reserve is set at a realistic price which is a shame.

It'd probably need some sheet metal welding underneath the outside runners in that middle section in order to roll the bike on easily.
And I could potentially fit a third runner in the middle. Likely too close together to allow 3 bikes, but should be ok to make it a single OR two bike trailer.

Especially since I do actually have two off road bikes.

The bit that attracts me the most is the end of the trailer is flat, so I can store it on its end in the garage. It has indespention suspension units and looks fairly simple.

You can buy a solid runner with a front wheel lock for about £65 inc postage on eBay. So I could always buy one of those later on and fit it in the middle, but until then, just take both bikes out on it.

Hi

Think I would go along with putting an extra run down the middle. No use for 3 bikes (well, maybe 3 narrow bikes that you do not care too much about cosmetically), but would be easy for 1 or 2. Also means that if using it for one bike the tie down points are further away so more side to side stability.

All the best

Keith

Hmm, guess I should keep looking unless I can get this for a bargain, fitting a third runner pushes the cost up to well over £120, without the cost of collecting it.

When for that sort of money I could get a decent quality single bike trailer, that'll be lighter and smaller. It's also very rare I need to carry more than one bike.

Gaz,

I've done it plenty of times, 1 bike on a 2 bike trailer where it is on one side. Makes no difference what so ever where the bike is on the trailer.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs Up

Gaz, Gaz, Gaz, Gaz, Gaz. Why oh why do you keep buying things?

Bike trailers barely depreciate, so buy a good one, a safe one, one that will fulfil your needs exactly, and look on it as a savings account.

This one looks safer than my last one!

It's not so much about cost, it's about storage, I don't want to keep it outside because it'll get nicked even quicker than it'll corrode, and I want to be able to get it in and out of my garage hernia-free.

All the foldable or tiny single bike trailers just have an axle and a central channel, meaning they don't really lend themselves to standing on their end.

And all the big, decent 3 bike trailers are like £400, and I'll have to keep it outside (see point re: stealing) because they're definitely too big/heavy to put in the garage.

I need a horsebox methinks.

That, plus this feeds my eBay addiction. (Claire's not too impressed, especially since we just bought a house and are now officially skint).

Get a horse box - a lot less worry about bikes falling over etc, too Smile. But even more hassle to store, of course.

Personally, I'd save up and get a trailer that fits your needs if you're going that way.

A few interesting ones on [url=https://motors-parts.shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=%28single%2Cone%2C1%29+bike+trailer+-kit&_sacat=131090&LH_Price=30..200%40c&_odkw=%28single%2Cone%2C1%29+bike+trailer&_osacat=131090&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313]ebay/url].

Yeah seen all those ones. This one takes my fancy:

https://motors-parts.shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=%28single%2Cone%2C1%29+bike+trailer+-kit&_sacat=131090&LH_Price=30..200%40c&_odkw=%28single%2Cone%2C1%29+bike+trailer&_osacat=131090&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Right price, decent make up, just collecting it would be a pain in the arse.

I'm not in any desperate need for one right this minute, so I suppose it can wait for me to do some eBay sleuthing over the coming month and find one just right, fairly local to me.

We'll see, I'm not completely put off that 2 bike one yet.

I had a benderup 2 bike trailer, cost me about 250 quid. Used it empty, with one bike, and 2 no problems.
Had it for about 2 years, sold it on for 10 quid or more than i paid for it.
Buy good buy once!

It can be done without any problems with a zx6r, witness:

https://i52.tinypic.com/smu1hu.jpg

lol thats my old zx6r i wrote off and had to lay down on a 2 bike trailer to get it home from the recovery firm.

But seriously i'd just go for the single trailer if thats all you're ever likely to use
