Hi Guys.

In the last two weeks my downloader has stopped working and so have Facebook and Hotmail.

The downloader isn't such an issue since I have downloaded Utorrent which in fairness is much quicker than the built in one ever was, but in case it helps at all, the download appears on the downloader screen, but it never starts to download it just sits at 0%.

Hotmail was the second thing to stop working, about a week or so ago now, it opens up hotmail fine, I click on the inbox tab, when it opens up the inbox it flashes up for about a second before going blank. (I can do a screen shot if it will help?) If I click the stop button when the inbox flashes up then I can see who has sent me emails but as I have stopped the page fully loading it wont let me click on any of the emails. If I click refresh it goes blank again. Just to clarify, by blank I mean just where the list of emails would normally be, the rest of the page is still visible and all of the buttons work. If I use Firefox or Internet Explorer my hotmail works fine so it must be a problem with Opera.

Facebook only started playing up yesterday but is by far the most irritating, I can't close any of the chat boxes at the bottom, and when I am having a conversation with somebody, the box just extends upwards to fit the next line in rather than giving me a scroll bar within that window (Make sense?).

Since they have all happened within such a short time of one another I can't help but think they are related issues.

I have tried deleting all my cookies and have also tried deleting opera completely and re-installing it, not sure it actually deleted fully since it came back with some of my passwords and tabs still in place and the speed dial still as I left it.

I don't really want to swap to another browser, Opera is normally really good, it's just pissing me off now to the extent that I would rather be using Internet Explorer, and that's saying something!

Thanks

Conan

I am having the Facebook chat issue but it doesn't bother me as I use an external client for chat. However it is Facebook's fault for changing chat and not testing it with Opera. With it being a lesser used browser you will run into these problems from time to time.

The Opera torrent client is very rudimentary in what features it offers, never bothered with it except to quickly download things on a newly installed operating system.

Tbh I have had my fair share of problems with Opera too but I persevere with it because I'm just that used to it (been using since version 9). Also the Link feature is very handy for me.

Have you tried Chrome? I definitely prefer it to both IE and Firefox.

Hi

Had issues with it last week, mainly in google mail. Still working fine for Facebook and the like. What version of Opera are you using?

Problems with Opera often seem to be down to more strict interpretation of Javascript and CSS, and so shows up dodgy coding.

All the best

Keith

Because it has lousy bookmarking, doesn't cope with reopening all the same tabs when restarted and seems to really suffer performance wise when you have loads of tabs open.

All the best

Not true.
If it closes unexpectedly it asks you if you want to re-open the tabs that was open.
If you closed it by accident all you have to do is open a new blank tab and click "Recent: 4 tabs" or any of the other recent pages it's linking in the middle of the screen Razz

https://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g43/TwoSock/chrome.jpg

Can't comment on the "many tabs open" as i've only ever had about 10 tabs open at the same time but never seen a decrease in performance. My pc is about 6 years old now too so not the fastest Smile

I did stumble across a chrome v other browsers thread a while back though and it is said that chrome is faster than all of them even with up to 100 tabs open.
Can't remember how old the thread was so not sure if it's true anymore.
To me chrome seems lots faster than eg. firefox and opera.

Not sure what you mean about the bookmarking?

Edit:
Also now that extensions and Greasemetal (Greasemonkey) is available for chrome so that you can run firefox extensions aswell i think it makes a very worthy opponent for firefox.

Hi

With Opera it is an option to have on all the time. So I routinely have it open 30+ tabs at once on startup.

On our old laptop Chrome noticebly really suffers switching between tabs when you have more than 1~2 open when compared to Opera.

Opera used to be far faster than others but got left behind a bit. Chromes Javascript engine blew it away. Latest versions of Opera have again got far faster Javasrcipt engines but not really checked them against Chrome.

To be honest I tend to use Opera most of the time, but also use Firefox and Chrome pretty often (and often all 3 at once). Also have IE and Safari installed, but the first is so dog slow it is annoying (took about 10 times longer to finish rendering a page that was heavily javascript dependent than either Chrome, FF or Opera), while Safari has never really given me much need to use it for long.

All the best

Keith

The book marking is a bit awkward to set up but after that is fine. I love chrome, much better than Firefox, Avant, Safari or IE. Haven't used Opera.

I much prefer Opera to Chrome, it's little things that I notice that make it more user friendly, however I downloaded Chrome last night I'll give it a week or so and try Opera again to see if the bugs are sorted, Opera started loading pages really really slowly last night, I thought it was a problem with my internet but speedtest showed I was still running at 10meg, the second I used Chrome pages were loading fast again so clearly my Opera is buggered.

No idea what has happened to make so many things screw up at once.
