No unfortunately google has not reached us yet. Were expecting it in 2012. Were still using the brilliant system that is lycos. ____________________ Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. |

There isn't much special about the NR bar its oval pistons and eight valve set up. You'd have to be a proper bellend to spend over a hundred grand on an early 90s fat, slow Honda ____________________ The RXS100: vehicle of choice for Chuck Norris |

I'm sure the last time I saw a good condition NR750 on ebay a few months back it was priced at around 40k - as poncy as that reg plate is, there's no way it's worth 70k ____________________ Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. |

Hi
It was Honda showing off what they could do around 1990. Oval pistons with 8 valves and 2 con rods per cylinder, along with carbon fibre bodywork. Honda had spent most of the previous decade trying to get oval pistons to work (having tried them as a way to get the 4 strokes vaguely competitive with the 2 strokes in GP racing), and the NR was just their way of showing they could do it.
Not that quick as they are not in a high state of tune (which kind of defeats the object of oval piston engines). Could have easily been made do produce a hell of a lot more power if they wanted. Advantage of oval pistons is that for racing rules it is a 4 cylinder engine, but bore and stroke wise, valve wise, etc it is effectively a V8, so can be built with a short stroke and have the knackers revved off it to produce high power.
New around 1990 they were about £38k.
All the best

This (much reposted vid) remains my favourite NR clip. Appropriate choice of music too.

A bit harsh maybe, but who hasn’t done exactly this before...? That’s right...
...NOT ME!!!
But I’m sure I remember my brand new CBR6 getting dropped just like this many years ago... oh, I remember, that was immediately after my mate finally convinced me to let his new girlfriend have a go on it!..
Clutch in for 30 seconds, select false neutral, both feet up and rev the nuts off it while releasing the clutch and gracelessly falling over. I also sold her my immaculate Divvy that I’d lavished with care and attention, only for her to write it off a month later. Not one of life’s natural bikers.
Me, bitter? ____________________ 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |

i bet no one would be willing to work on them though, seeing how rare they are. |
I seem to recall Honda tuning one around the time the bike was released, made something in the region of 160bhp I think. There was an article in Bike magazine a couple of years ago that stated there was only one person in the UK that could service them.
I wish more manufacturers made bikes like this. The kind where they show what they really can do when expense isn't something to be hindered by. I don't like the looks of the NR that much (I prefer RVFs and RC30s from a similar vintage) but I really appreciate how good a bike can be when a manufacturer is at the top of their game, where every conceivable component is as good as it can possibly be. It doesn't matter to me at all that performance wasn't their main target for the NR, I appreciate that is important for some people, but it need not be the ethos behind every single bike that's ever made.
The last bike we had like this was probably the Desmosedici and it too has since been surpassed in terms of performance by recent 'mass produced' machinery. What really disappointed with my about the Ducati though was that despite it looking like a MotoGP bike with lights and a numberplate, (and the fact that Ducati had balls to make such a thing), the quality and finish of the components didn't seem as good as I thought they should be in the flesh. Having seen a few up close, they appear to be built on the same level as an 1198, albeit one with some very trick components, rather than a machine displaying exceptional craftmanship.
I agree that the one featured is well over priced, but I guess in time, bikes like these will just continue to appreciate. I was disappointed that there wasn't one at Goodwood when I went a couple of years ago. I really wanted to see the Rolls Royce of motorcycles in the flesh.*
*Obviously, that's not the best analogy, but I hope you get what I mean. |
