Well you NEVER fill a cooling system with water for a start. you fill it with coolant. ____________________ 57 Huoniao HN125-8 - , 97 Kawasaki GPZ500S -

If it's pissing out whats the point of using coolant Water will be fine for now until you have fixed the leak. The only problem with water is that it will freeze and possibly crack your head if the temp gets real cold but seeing as it all leaks out that won't be a problem.
What you need to do is fill the bike before you go to work then stop halfway and keep the engine running. Look down into the area you have highlighted and see if you can locate the leak May be easier to use coloured coolant to see. As said if it is a rubber pipe then that would be dead easy to replace.
I'm not that familiar with the DNA 50 but it should have a water pump to circulate the coolant. Sometimes these wear and leak or the gasket leaks. Another possibility is that the water jacket on the head may have a small crack or the headgasket may have gone.
The first priority is to locate the leak. If you have run it at 'maximum heat' then you may have warped the head making the head gasket leak worse,
If you bought it from a garage then get it back there or if you bought it off ebay etc get doing the above ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07

Could well be a gasket, could be a crack in a pipe.
What you could do is make a note of what pipes go where on the outside of the engine.
Take off the bike, Lay it out on cardboard, get rubber bungs in the pipes(or use screws/bolts..ive seen it bodged lol!) then fill up without spilling on the cardboard and then look for a wet patch.
That will narrow down where the leak is, if it is outside of the engine.
Not sure how simple it is for you to do this, but its what I did with my cars radiator and piping.
As to the riding 1.5 miles to get coolant, of course you can...water will work just as well for such a short trip, but make sure you ratio it properly.
Also dont get confused... Ive got antifreeze to put in my car tomorrow, its labelled coolant/antifreeze. Ive used stuff just labelled coolant before and went through winter with 0 troubles!
Hope you get it sorted, I know what its like, had the car off the road for a week due to a radiator leak |

Can't really see from the pics but leaking water has a habit of travelling. However from that location I say waterpump seals / gasket are the prime suspect.
Done a google search, see this about pump seals / gasket :-

Don't ride your liquid cooled ped with no coolant in it or your current problems are going to look minor in comparison!! ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07 |
