Buying a brand new car

Well, not strictly buying. Im doing ok at work,no commitments and want a car, im bored of the cold now, i drove past a renault garage the other day and saw a car, a twingo?£129 a month for 3 years then after 3years you can trade it for a new car. Seems ok, £129 deposit aswell.

Anyone done a similar thing, are they as they seem or riddled with clauses and tricks.

It is pretty much that really bar maybe some more pennies at trade in time? Depends on the condition / mileage at the time.

More of a question being, do you realy want a Twingo for the next 3 years?

thats a fair point actually, they did have some other tidier cars, clio and megane caught my eye, more ££'s though.

The thing with buying a brand new car (other than the depreciation etc etc) is that it traps you, mentally.

After having a brand new car you will always want a brand new one, sucked into the trap of thinking new = good, constantly paying £xxx per month to the car companies, ignoring potentially better cars just because they are used.

I will have a brand new car one day - I like the idea of it, but only when I can afford one which will be amazing - like a 911.

Until then, I'll have used ones thanks, it allows easier progression up the motoring scale, and flexibility. Plus, it's cheaper. For 3or4 installments on that Twingo you could have a useable car. All cars are amazing - I love my £300 clio, I have fun driving it, I have fun driving any car tbh - so why pay a fuckload of cash just to have something new?

yeah thats the idea, its appealing to me as its easy on the cash flow and ive got no 'real' commitment to it, and if/when i get bored after 3 years i can get a new one.

But at the same time i get a fully warranted car, brand new, first owner, 0miles pros and cons

You can often get the same Personal Contract Hire type of deals on used stuff. I used it to get my Mx5 which was about 18 months old at the time and about 6k cheaper than a new one!

I really doubt you want to be in a twingo for 3 years... the novelty of 'new' isn't worth the money, imo

I've got my C2 VTR HDi for £120 a month (with an initial payment of about £350) brand new under warranty on a 2 year deal, don't have to worry about depreciation, tax and breakdown paid for my Citroen.

Does me fine for a runaround as I dont need anything flash, costs next to nothing to run and at the time it made more sense than buying a banger for £350.

If you dont have the cash to buy a new car or dont want to take the hit on depreciation but you want the peice of mind of having a brand new car under warranty that you just hand back after 2 or 3 years it seems to make sense to me.

The car would have been £10-12k new, it's now worth £6k and ive got it for another year!

This is the same as my mum does on her car

Only problem is you are limited in mileage heres is 12K i think and then it's 10p a mile after that

She's got a Skoda Fabia, they pay services cost and warrenty part...even come with full tank of fuel

I did this earlier this year, got a Toyota IQ on the scrappage scheme. Works well. I bought into the pre-pay servicing as well as it saved a few hundred over the 3 years.
At the end of the three years I'll either give them the car back if they don't have anything else I like, or, if they do, I'll chop it for another Toyota.
We did the maths before buying in and it worked out cheaper than running the bike and old car by a fairly decent margin.

Hmm the base Twingo is £8695 OTR, over 3 years you'd pay £4600 ish. On the renualt website a quick search shows a 2007 twingo with 16k on the clock is worth about £5000. So basically they are selling a £8695 car for £9600, clever Smile
