Get a piece of string, thread it through the key and then tie it into a loop. Next time your dad goes to the pub, slip it over his head as he goes out the door.

It's normal, when you switch off and take the key out, for the engine to stop. It's a security sort of thing.

If your bike keeps running and you've got the key in your hand then it sounds like the ignition switch is Kerry Packered. About £28 from M & P

Dude, you are giving me a headache with your typing. You may be dyslexic but you used some full-stops, so why not the capital letters after them? A few more punctuation marks would not go amiss too.Wink

Not exactly clear what you are talking about. Do you mean that you can pull the key out with the ignition switch in the 'on' position? Or, do you mean that when you switch the ignition off and remove the key, the engine keeps running?

Both are possible but would have a different cause.

Hi

Earth wire not connected to the ignition switch, probably.

All the best

Ok, some bikes allow you to do that to avoid the key-fob scratching the yokes, but I think in your case, someone has screwdrivered the ignition lock at some point. Can you turn the ignition with a different key or a screwdriver? If so, someone has stolen the bike at some point and forced the ignition, you need a new ignition barrel.

No. Only one key will turn it on. I think i may just get a hole new ignition barrel. Thanks for your help.

Which it will do on many bikes if the earth wire to the ignition switch is broken / disconnected. That wire is used to ground the ignition coil out to kill the spark and so stop the engine.

All the best
