come on then, whats the trick, occasionally i get the CBR to run to 200km's per tank, usually following sedate 60mph motorway routes

when im out thrashing, i have seen as little as 122km's before running onto reserve Shocked

if there was some kind of incentive for riding sedately, then it might be a little easier, and the difference between 122 or 200 km's to a tank is fairly major

so how exactly do you need to ride in order to conserve your fuel?

Acceleration and high revs burn fuel faster I believe. Therefore ideal fuel-efficiency would be cruising at barely above tickover in top gear, with leathers on and tucked in behind the fairing.

1) - don`t accellerate, if you really need to, do it slowly rather than a giving it a big handfull.

2) - don`t brake, because then 1 kicks in.

3) minimise drag, i.e. sit behind trucks, vans, caravans anything bigger than you, and wear slippery gear and a rucksack (fills in the low pressure zone behind the rider)

4) - blow your tyres up to the maximum - it reduces rolling resistance.

5) - use the lightest chain you can, keep it well oiled (scottoiler or similar) and make sure your brake pads dont drag at all.

6) - keep the speed down, dont use indicators or headlights.

all of these will contribute towards higher mileage, but make for a boring ride Laughing

Connect your starter motor to a mains outlet get quite a few extension leads then "start" button your ass to your desired destination.

I probably would have thoguht riding round in top gear in a peak torque level without much throttle would give good fuel comsumption.

Keep the speed down and the throttle closed, or near to.

Only 200km?

Goosey, there's something wrong with it.... I get around 260km before I hit reserve just riding normally. If I'm taking the grand ride to Cardiff normally it will do more if I just sit at around 90.

That sounds very high Anna Shocked
Just done some rough calculations and assuming yours has 12 litres to reserve like mine, you're doing 60+ mpg. I struggle to get that kind of mpg sitting at 70mph Eh?

er not wishing to brag but I manage 180 miles before the Thundercat's little light comes on to tell me it's time for more go-go juice Embarassed

The big killer for fuel economy is heavy accelerating and braking, just drinks petrol that.

Hi

Well the Bandit manages around 180 miles on a tank full safely, The FZ750 a bit over 200 and the GPZ we are not really sure (but it will do 220 on a tank, but gets water in the tank easily which makes switching to reserve a dodgy idea).

As to efficiency the engine is at its most efficient on full throttle at the revs of peak torque. Trouble is that do that and you will accelerate quite rapidly.

All the best

Keith
