 |
|
Just put a pair of BT023's on the CBR, for my own future reference the bike is on 34,280 miles.
Only ever had two bikes for long enough to get through a set of tyres, A rear BT45 on my NTV lasted about 11,000 miles.
I had a crappy dunlop tyre on my GPZ which lasted around 8,000.
Not done too bad considering some litre bikes apparently get less than 4000 miles! Just wondering what to expect from the BT023's.
Oh and a large majority of my riding is on motorways, and the rest is pretty residential so my tyres normally end up looking like car tyres
So anyway, how many miles do you get from what kind of riding and what tyres do you use? ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

On the XJ, at first I had Avon Venom-x I think they were. They wore about evenly and I rode the bike for 7000 miles and they were already half worn when I bought the bike.
Then I had Cheng Shin Hi-Maxx I think they were called. Not very good. Made the bike into a 250kg roller skate in the wet. I got 6000 from the rear and the centre of the tyre was as thin as a piece of paper when I got rid. The front lasted about 8000 miles and was pretty much treadless when I changed that.
EDIT: The Cheng Shins were used for several 400 mile motorway journeys and a fair bit of touring so perhaps explains their shorter life to an extent. Still wouldn't buy them again though.
I now have an Avon Elan something on the rear which is, I'd say, on par with the first Avons I had. I can't remember them being spectacular but I never thought about them so they must have been doing a good job. On the front I now have a BT45, it's similarly good. It's wearing a bit too quickly for my liking though, although maybe it looks more worn than it actually is. ____________________ H100 Breaking for spares |

I think my H100 has it's original front tyre on, and it's just about to hit 20,000. I may change it soon ____________________ Current: Suzuki RG 125 Gamma, Honda H100, Triumph Tiger 800XC, Suzuki SV650 (minitwin) |

Well I did 1600 miles on my 023, at 33bhp and really to be honest, not alot happened. I think with 33bhp it would be good for over 10k miles.
It hadn't started to square off atall, and had scrubbed up very nicely on the edges .
Great tyres though. Just don't like the cold weather to much, and take forever to warm up when the weather is cold, but on a nice warm day, its good . |

When I bought the Bandit last November it had a half worn BT019 rear, and an Avon Azaro front.
I've since gone thru a BT021 rear, and more recently fitted a Maxxis Supersport rear.
The front tyre lasted a little longer, and was also recently replaced with a Maxxis Touring
....so two rear tyes and one front... just over a year... and just over 10,000 miles ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/mikejbry/7r/IMAG0080.jpg
most of my milage on these has been motorways unfortunately and they are starting to square off a bit now
But i think they will last a couple more k easily enough ready for some fresh tyres come spring |

Michelin S1 on my Vespa (its a 10" tyre but a pretty softish compound as scooter tyres go)
Rear about 4000-5000 miles
Front- forever
My riding is too varied on my FZR to really judge.
Have done 4 trackdays this year and little else and my D208's (not the ideal choice) are getting near the limit round the edges.
Other years I've done some touring and loads of commuting and got about 8-10k out of a rear. Front squared off but still had plenty of thread. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

I wear the edges out before the centres.
Got 3k ish out of my last supercorsa rear.
Have had 6-7k out of a rear 'generic cheap ass touring tyre', but that included a trackday. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

On my busa, 1500 miles from my rear OE bridgetone which included running in.
I changed to Avon Storms and they have lasted 3000 miles and still plenty of tread left. Good grip as well ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

When I got it the Bandit had new BT45s on, and thanks to caning it off the line everywhere and far too much engine braking, the rear lasted around 2000 miles.
Then I tried BT20s (and a lot less engine braking!) and they lasted around 6000. Fronts on both still had quite a bit tread left when the rear had all but disappeared.
Expecting the Pilot R2s on there now to last around the same as the 20s (much much better tyre though). ____________________ A Guide To Powerbands |

For anybody who cares, the rear lasted 10,000 miles, the front is still on the bike at the moment but will be getting changed in the next week or two, currently showing 48,500 miles or there abouts giving a total mileage for the front tyre of near enough 15,000 miles.
