Personally I love Christmas but absolutely hate New Year with a passion.

Was speaking to my girlfriend about this the other day and was really surprised to find out that she also detests New Year too - I have been with her for 8 New Years and never knew she felt this way about New Year.

For Christmas I still love to receive loads and loads of presents, watch all the good films on TV; play with my toys, have a good dinner and get an early bed on Chrsitmas night. It is probably the best day of the year in my opinion.

*I should probably mention that I am 26 years old in case by reading this post, people assume I am 15/16 years old.*

However I fucking hate New Year. Hate Hogmanay since I am usually working. It is my dad's birthday which we dont really celebrate (because New Year is basically on the evening of his birthday).
I dont like drinking. (Or being forced to drink)
Dont like being forcefully socialable and fake when everyone wishes you a 'Happy New Year' and you need to wish it back.
The TV is shite and it is the same pish every fucking year.
Hate forcing myself to stay up late (usually working since early hours of 31st Dec).
Also the fact that you feel you need to do something, see someone, phone someone and/or go somewhere.
And for some reason everyone fucking cries (older people with memories, etc).
P.S. I hate people who cry, I personally dont have time for them - crying shows weakness.

I honestly cant think of any positive parts about this night/day, yet people that I work with seem to love it and prefer it to Christmas Day for some reason.

Whats your thoughts on these 2 days of the year ?

TBH I wouldn't say I hate ever... I don't like xmas because it is commercial.. Spend spend spend and all the fights within the family..

New year there is so much pressure to do something and to get a pissed as poss it makes people go mad with the pressure... Then the fight start...

Xmas is a crap, expensive, tiring "fake happy" event which causes so much mither.

New years eve on the other hand, I can go out and get smashed with mates and enjoy myself.

the problem with this time of year is the commerciality of it, people have lost touch with the real message behind christmas.

Something to do with father christmas dying as a sacrifce on a cross so we can all recive presents.

BTW im not particularly religious (in case you wondered!)

Christmas is all right, but if you go out on New Years Eve you're a fool, unless its to a private party of course.

The pubs and clubs are absolutely rammed, and a drink costs £20. There is no point to it. You can go out and get smashed any day of the freakin' year.

I hate new year. I wouldn't say I'm Christmas's biggest fan, but it is acceptable, beyond the commerciality. The main advantage to both is the time off work.

Crimbo day is alright if you have a family with loads of kids that get together, happy times. Personally I can't be bothered with presents, would rather not get any and not have to give any. Not a big fan of christmas dinner but it is good to get the family together I suppose. Nice warm feeling to it.

New Year blows big time, I just find it's empty and hollow and just marks the start of another year of work and no good holidays in sight and It's still fricking winter for a good two or three months and everyone is miserable afterwards because they're back at work and skint.

I like the holiday season in general, or well, winter - everyone all dressed up in warm wooly clothing, the lights, the darkness, trying to stay warm, etc etc... This time of year is just er more, dare I say... romantic. Razz

Right I'm away to hammer two bits of wood together and start a fire.

Christmas is waaay too commercial, with the majority of youngsters either losing or ignoring the reasons and traditions.

New Year is over-rated too IMO, with so much of a build up it inevitably tends to disappoint - after all, there's nothing more disappointing than a "premature congratulation" !! LOL

Im agreeing with everyone who says Christmas is too commercial... if you want to give my something, pay my rent for me? or buy me something i actually need... or better yet convince the DVLA to give me my ambulance license back the c*nts!

I like new year.... i;ve spent the last couple holding my other half (of the time) and starting the new year with a kiss... cos im romantic like that...

Christmas is great. I like giving presents and I like receiving ones that I generally wouldn't buy with my money but want them anyway.
Can't stand New Year and never have liked it. It is fake but it's good for another day off work. Kind of makes me feel another year has gone by without me doing very much with my finite life.
The older you get the worse it feels. Sad

I find both Christmas and New Year are much the same as any special event that you could anticipate. Look forward to them too much, and they will disappoint. For instance, I'd made plans to travel down to my mate's and have a great pissup this year, but due to family etc she changed her plans, which really disappointed me. Now I think I will be stuck with my parents playing Trivial Pursuit. Shocked

One thing that bugs me about Christmas, and perhaps I'm in the wrong for thinking about it this way, is for years I tried to think of thoughtful gifts for people, especially my parents, which I enjoyed for a while but eventually realised that they never thought of anything thoughtful to get for me. Fair enough, they give me money to spend on what I want but it would be nice if they just took a few minutes and thought of something that might be nice and benefit me. I don't think it would be that hard to choose something for me, I only like bikes, camping, computers, and cider. Laughing

Going into a pub on Christmas day is a weird experience. It's full of alcoholics trying to be nice to you and singing and stuff. Confused It's like being trapped in a Pogues video.

Karma for a similar minded person.

You points are very valid and despite me forgetting to put some of them in my initial post I fully agree.

I also feel it is a time to reflect on the year gone by and be disappointed at yourself.

I can see this New Year already, wondering why I dont have my own house yet and the girlfriend asking me why we dont have one either. And wondering why I am still stuck in this dead-end job I have been wanting out of since last year. This really fucking annoys me.

Christmas has been forgotten in the Jon B household this year, the big day is Friday 17th December (yes less than 48 hours away) when I am getting married! Might even have a proper white wedding with snow as well!

I'll be on honeymoon on Christmas, which will be really odd as it is usually such a family affair.

New year is meh, haven't done anything for the past couple of years and when I do it is usually a house party affair. Like marjay said you are an absolute mug to go to a pub/club on new years.
