Hi All,

Got a 2007 Bandit, had from new.
Parked up last night - no problems, went to start this morning and the button doesn't do anything except turn the light off and back on, never had any starting problems.

Checked the battery voltage and it's hovering around 12.10 when ignition is off and 11.45 when ignition is on (drain from light)

Checked Fuses - all fine

No apparent warning on lights or display.

I'm guessing the button is working fine as the light is going out.

Is there a relay turning off the light? or is it switching off because the starter motor is drawing power?

Where can i find the starter relay?
Where can I find the solenoid?
Is there a way to test the starter motor and solenoid on the bike? or does it have to be off?

Thanks again

Kind regards
James

3 year old bike, 3 year old battery, very cold weather.... before doing anything complicated, I'd try jump starting it. If it fires straight up, you know the battery's died.

Sorry I forgot to mention - the battery is 3 months old and there have been no signs of poor or sluggish starts, it starts immediately every single time

Check the connections on the battery, give them a clean and make sure they are nice and tight.

Also put the battery on a charger as it may be low of charge. Thumbs Up

Thank you for your advice, I'll give it a go but incase it doesn't work - any clues about the relay and the light questions?

Kind regards
James

Most new bikes switch off the light when the starter is pressed, to give the battery more juice, both of my do.

Put it on charge and try again, it sound to me like Alarm/immobilizer or clutch/side stand switch.

Was their any noise when you pressed the starter button?

If it made a clicking noise then that would suggest the battery is to low to turn the starter but it would still have enough power to engage the lights.

Absolutely nothing, i've tried several times and the only thing which happens is the lights go off (presumably via a relay)

Kind regards

As chris red said "check the side stand and clutch switches". Thumbs Up

Raise the side stand and try starting it. Spray the switch with wd40 or similar as it may be sticking due to all the crud on the roads at the moment Thumbs Up

Suzuki's need the clutch pulled in to start. It could be some water has got into the clutch switch?

If there isn't even a click or attempt from the starter motor, its more than likely going to be a 'safety' switch somewhere!
