Today:

'Our' Robin ... I swear its the same Robin thats been here for 3 yrs... quite brave and almost eats out of your hand.

Fred the Pheasant ... he simply uses our garden as a walkthrough ... see him waltz past once or twice a day.

An owl ... it swooped by as I reversed into the drive tonight.

I hear woodpeckers in summer ... but havent managed to see one.

Robins are nasty little sods, according to radio 4 they lose some of their aggression at this time of year and are not territorial. My robin obviously does not listen to R4 as he was going for all comers yesterday.

Due to the Missus wearing a low cut vest top all day I've seen a great pair of tits ( No, I'm not posting them )...

Garden wise, some wag tails, some crows, some round wood pigeons, a robin and some black birds, they all came wondering after the seed and bread crumbs I scattered for them...

Robins used to dominate the holly bush in my Nan's garden all year round. Not even starlings could get in there.

Don't get many birds other than pigeons and seagulls round here. The bloke up the road throws loads of corn out so the street is normally full of pigeons. I like them, my Grandad raced them, get the occasional Magpie and Blackbirds but nothing particularly pretty.

To my shame I'm not good with birds, there are a few in the sky but they are all budgies to me.

Those plus:

Brambling
Long tailed Tits
Field Fare
Greater Spotted Woodpecker
Song Thrush
Goldfinches
Greenfinches
Nut Hatch

I also see quite a few buzzards flying across the field at the back and sat in the trees along with rooks and crows. Saw lots of ducks too, as we took a walk across the fields down to the river, so we (the dogs) put quite a few up! Rolling Eyes

My neighbour was all excited yesterday as he and a friend had been out to see Waxwings. I quite like sitting on my sofa with a pair of binoculars spotting what's what on the bird feeder! Embarassed

I like to put food out for the birds. When the pigeons, magpies and crows inevitably come, I can shoot them Very Happy

Nope, no-one there either, as the front garden is surrounded by high hedges and trees! I'm on a farm track which is access to the farm only, so no-one to spy on at all except ickle birdies, feral cats and the occasional dog walker or horse rider going down to the yard!

Only ever see pigeons and seagulls (rare) round here, too. Maybe the odd starling or blackbird. I hardly ever see a sparrow, and its a novelty for me to see a magpie. Although possibly once I start taking the dog for walks in the park I might see more. He's just about "seasoned" to round the block now Smile

I still put out fat and nut balls in the winter for the birds; last year I hung one off my front window but it didn't get touched so I figure: not a lot of little hungry birds in my street. The neighbour throws bread out on the street for pigeons, which my cats occasionally catch. Prolly keeps the little birds away, LOL

I really do miss proper birds, I used to like watching the native birds in the bush in NZ, you can still sometimes hear them in the small areas of bush left in the city there. I miss them, and I do like birdsong. It always seems hopeful to me.

You have mentioned NZ more times in the past 3 months, than in the 3 years I have been on this forum.

I suggest:
1) You are not content / happy.
2) You will return to NZ within 2 years.

Kind Regards,

Yeah, I miss NZ a LOT lately. Got too much time on my hands to think about what I haven't got any more.

Like birds in my back garden:
Maybe I should move to the countryside Rolling Eyes
