Hi all.

Another forum I'm a member of is doing this and I thought it was a cracking idea. We pick a car, preferably a slow one that is cheap and we can all drive relatively easily. Something like a mini is ideal. Set a lowish bhp, tyre and weight limit, no driver aids except ABS and possibly TC. Do a race with it, decent length as in about 10 laps. Possibly even a fortnightly series if we get enough interest.

If enough of you would be interested I'd be happy to provide a prize car for the winner. Thoughts on tracks and car type welcome, at the moment I reckon minis, mx5s and that sort of price range for the car, 200bhp for power and somewhere like Tsukuba for the track.

Oh and driving like a cock will result in a ban!

I think this is a good idea - I'd be up for it, but would prefer it with quicker cars!

Having recently done the grind for an FGT Id rather keep it as accessible as possible! We can move onto quicker stuff later.

Start with just TC and ABS in an FF car. The Mugen Civic or Lupo cup are the most neutral handling cars in the game. Start there then move onto a low powered FR car, get a feel for it and you'll be laughing. If youre still stuck get a tune for your car from GTplanet. Stay away from MR cars while you're learning though as they will oversteer then snap back at you if you're not quick enough. Far from ideal in a 1040bhp Minolta!

Play with the LSD settings too, increasing the initial torque combined with softening the compression damping, softer rear spring rate and a tad more camber and toe makes a world of difference.

when there was that 350z special tournament event on during the day of gt5p i actually managed to finish in the top 100 of the world lol and that was on pro physics so i can do it if i practice enough, i just dont find it as rewarding as standard mode because its much harder to be the hero Laughing , i used to race intermediate suzuka all the time on gt5p too and normally won as i would spend days tuning and setting cars to make them the fastest. but the best way to go round there fast is to set the car for mild drifting which only really works well on standard mode and not pro so im no stranger to tuning and setups, i just prefer the experience of standard physics. Maybe my opinion would change if i got a decent wheel and pedals but on the pad i like it much better on normal.

I dont think many folk will have an F1 car.

Closest I can get to that is the Peugeot HDi FAP. Sad

I think that would just be messy! The idea of fairly low-powered cars on a technical track is more appealing.

How about "reasonably priced cars" on the Top Gear track? Laughing

That's the idea.

I have an FGT but playing assists off with a controller is nearly undrivable in second gear.

The ring is a bad call anyway. Plenty will inevitably fall off making it a wasted race.

I know what you mean, I've only just got the FGT - it is great for high-speed races, but oversteers like anything in 2nd - 4th gears. On the 'ring it would just be all over the place!

On another note, anyone used the Hayabusa concept car (I think it is called Suzuki GSX-R Concept)? That thing can beat cars with 3x as much power!

Slower cars generally result in closer racing too especially if they are FWD
