Got a new battery last weekend.
Got home and attached the acid container on top (i.e. push down and allow seals to break and acid to flow into cells) as I have done numerous times over the years.
Firstly, the central 4 cells refused to fill up and the others stopped halfway. A jiggling caused a few bubbles but little else which indicated an air lock. Tried to lift off and back on gently but to no avail - ended up piercing top of each container to break seal. Acid then went in...
Then charged it up after overnight on a trickle charger after leaving it to stand for several hours. Charger indicated (upon inspection next day) that battery was all good.
Fitted it, lights all work, indi's work, touch starter...
DEAD (everything off - lights the lot)
Ignition off, then back on and we have lights, indi's etc..
Touch starter...
DEAD (everything off - lights the lot)
Is this a duff one or what! As soon as it requires a big load it fails.
Why is this? Thanks ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F

I would take it or send it back , it sounds like you've got a duff one & they should replace it without any fuss , . |

Before sending it back, try a set of jump leads from another battery and see if the bike will turn over ____________________ Suzuki GSF600 K3 (in the fastest colour, black). |

Hi
Could be a dodgy battery (possible that if dropped it could damage a terminal so it made a poor internal connection).
However I would also check the other connections. Ie, the main earth onto the back of the engine (on a Bandit, not sure what bike this is on though). Also the main connections to the starter relay (often where the rest of the electrics take their feed from).
All the best

Alreet, cheers for the replies.
The new battery measured 12.34V when charged and out of the bike (guy in shop tested) but when he heard about the sudden death when thumbing the starter he was happy to give me a replacement.
The bike is fine, currently using the old battery and no problems. I guess this was just a duff one <shrugs> Who knows! ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F
