hey guys, got a slight problem. im at work and real;ised that my chain is way too slack Sad

so quick question? how do you tighten a chain on an nsr?
and what tools will i need.
sorry the post is so short but ive got my boss walking around Sad

Well, you see the big nut on the left hand side of the bike on the swingarm? that's where the axle pokes through. You'll need to slacken this off - you might do well to slacken it off at the other end too, but don't pull the bolt out unless you want your wheel to fall off Wink

At the end of the swingarm on either side, there should be a bolt, each with two nuts on. The nuts closest to the end of the bolt are the lock nuts - slacken these off. The nuts behind them are responsible for adjusting your chain. unscrew these nuts - a half turn at a time, at either side, to pull your wheel backwards. Be sure that you unscrew the wheel adjusting nuts the same amount on either side, or else you'll end up with a misaligned wheel, which points in a direction other than straight forwards. This can cause uneven chain/sprocket wear, as well as abnormal brake disc/pad wear, or could even be dangerous. Once you have the chain tightened up far enough (there should be about 1.5 inches of play in it when the bike's in gear - putting the bike in gear tensions the chain - putting the bike in gear isn't part of tightening the chain up as described in the manual, but an observation I made.), tighten up the locknuts. Once these are tight, and the chain is tensioned, tighten up your wheel bolt again Smile

Oh and do not tighten the chain too far!

Loosen the rear wheel nut, put the bike on the centre stand, pop it into neutral, turn the adjusting nuts (they are on the end of the swingarm) equally until there is 25-35mm of slack on the chain (measure from inbetween the two sprockets right in the middle). Secure the adjusting nuts, pinch up the rear wheel nut, put the bike back on the ground then tighten the rear wheel up to 9.0kgm or if you have no torque wrench, forking tight!

Try cleaning it, degrease it and relube. Work some lube into the tight spots if it doesn't free get a new one.

One thing worth bearing in mind when adjusting a chain is to adjust the free play at the tightest point, ie a tight spot.

face it, all part time jobs at our age are shite. I don't know of anyone in a similar postion to me who has a decent job, I earn the most out of everyone I know which is £5.38p/h!

I was on £4.07 in my previous job, but these shit shovelling jobs have got me a nice little car, a driving license and a motorbike Smile
