Hi guys

I've put a gulp of Engine Coolant in my Oil thinking I had the Oil by mistake.
I've rode it 3 miles and its come to a holt - no bangs or anything just kinda died.

I thought as it was only a bit of coolant it would work its way through - i'm not mechanical but do you think if i flush out the oil it would be ok?
There is plenty of oil in the engine and looks the right colour etc.

What could i have done to it that would make it stop? Could it be filter? or worse something seized?

Advice appreciated!

Hi

Do you mean you have put coolant into the oil feed tank? Where are you looking to see "plenty of oil in the engine"?

Did this coolant go in the 2-stroke oil tank or the crankcase/gearbox? One would be Shocked and the other just Rolling Eyes.

Did the overheat light come on before it stopped. I assume it will not start now?

the coolant went in the oil filler reservoir - not much though about a gulp.

Well since water/glycol is denser than oil, the 'gulp' will have gone to the bottom of the tank, where the oil feed will have taken it to be mixed with the fuel for lubrication. You will therefore have been running with no oil at all, just coolant. The water will most likely evaporate in the engine and effectively steam clean the interior - removing any oil from the running surfaces.

Remember these engines run at what, 50:1 fuel:oil? There's not a lot of oil goes in there so any disruption to this could be problematic.

Alternatively the coolant has messed up the jetting and screwed the ability of the fuel to atomise, preventing combustion.

Whatever, you're going to need to drain and flush the oil and lines and I would have the top end and carb off for inspection and cleaning.
