I was in the supermarket today, and spotted they are now selling Creme Eggs for 50p! Am I the only one who remembers them at 25p not so long ago?

And as for Curly Wurlys... half the size they used to be!

And 10p Chomp bars, hehe.

Is it because the manufacturers are making Wagon Wheels and Curly Wurlys and stuff smaller, or did they just seem bigger when we were little?

When I saw the title I wondered why a grown man was making a post about sweeties. And then it struck me

On a more serious note though. Ruffle bars used to be 10P now they are near 30. The old advert used to say "just try and keep one to yourself" bloody things are too small and expensive to share!

Wagon wheels used to be wagon sized now they are tiny.

I remember them being 10p and much bigger. Then they went up to 12 1/2p and so the rot set in.

You want a rip off? In Dereham there is a proper sweet shop... pick'n'mix in the middle of the shop, jars of sweets on all the walls that you take to the counter and get the weight you want. £0.99 for 100g!!! I remember when it was 20p a quarter (bearing in mind I'm only 26). And WHAM bars, 25p for a standard one, 35p a bar for the so called xtreme sour! I used to get 50p pocket money and would be able to buy enough sweets to induce a coma!

And when did super-duper-ultra-mega-xtreme sour stop actually being sour? I recall bleeding cheeks and tongue ulcers from eating sour warheads. Now I can eat everything and not even suck my cheeks in a little!

I can see why the yoof of today are so discontented. I'd be so angry at the false promises of sourness and extortionate prices that I would be driven to a life of beating up the elderly too!

Agreed. And atomic fireballs are a joke these days. You used to have to pass them around, everyone had a go until they could take no more then passed it onto the next guy. No way could you finish a whole one by yourself. One guy in my class claimed to be able to eat all three in hisd mouth at once. He was put to the test and found wanting.

Not sure about the UK, but I remember seeing this about the American eggs. According to Wikipedia UK eggs haven't shrunk but I am sceptical.

Also agree about sweets no longer being sour and atomic fireballs having as much puff as a korma out of jar.

Today I saw a Twirl for 80p Shocked When they first came out they were about 25p.

When I was young (many years ago) black jacks and fruit salads were half a penny and you could get loads of sweets for my 10p pocket money. Mind you my 2 mile bus fare was only 2p

It's the big bags I think have went up loads. A big bag of Minstrels or Skittles used to be about £1, now there double that! Sad

There's a sweet shop in Brighton which sells sweets from around the world at extortionate prices...but because it was my birthday I treated myself to something in a tin (basically for the tin!!!)

I almost voided my bowels in the shop the other week when I saw a caramel bar for 65p. But I had out the idea in my head on the walk round, so I was already looking forward to the chocolatey goodness, so I gave in to their extortionate bastard price, and they're definitely smaller too. Wasn't really worth it in the end either, nostalgia was sweeter than actually reliving the experience.

I noticed this today, had a £1 left ofter, said my sister could get a packet of sweets, expected to be able to get something for my other sister as well, 50p when I was younger could get you lots...now it can't even get you a Mars bar at Martins!

Can remember spending my pocket money on Polos as well, used to be 24p each, now they are 41p at Tesco, but 63p at Martins Sad.

Not exactly sweets, but Space Raiders were 10p for, I think, about 10 years. They are now 20p but are in a much bigger bag than the old ones. Brilliant. The cost of everything is going through the roof, shame my wages isn't.
