Hello all my name is Andrew and i come from cornwall Smile im not new to bikes how ever do not know what 125 i should get, I have untill 26th of August 2 pick what bike I wont because that will be when i can get a 125 Razz. I have an Aprilia rs 50cc 07 and from the begin i wanted a aprilia 125 06 or later (reason, its faster Razz) But then after school one time i went to a Yamaha dealer and got to see the 2009 Yamaha YZF-R125 and fell in love with it looked it up and was loving it! but then my bro in law was talking about the cativcagiva mito and nw i dont know Laughing I now don`t mind the speed as long as it can do 80mph im happy.

Things i just want my 125 to able to do/be.
I don`t want to do alot of work on it.e.g. 2 stroke and things like i have had to do with my aprilia, i just want a nice sounding reliable bike (for once) Laughing

Thanks Andrew

Bike that can do 80, sound nice and is reliable? well the r125 doesn't hit 80, unless down hill it also doesn't sound nice. Then the mito and rs125, both wont be particularly reliable, will be able to do 80 and don't sound that nice.

If I were you I would get something cheap and reliable and use is to get through your test. CG125 would be perfect Thumbs Up

Buy a cheap cg125 or if monies not tight buy a yzf as you'll probably be able to sell it at no loss if you shop around for a bargain, and do ya test then buy a 250 or a restricted 400, 500 or 600cc and forget all about the 125's.

So your not into the boring ugly upright CG125 bikes and love the sports bikes and when you do your test you want to get a 400 or a 600cc sports bike?

So why waste money on a yzf125 just to get your test passed? Without sounding like a patronising pillock ( which I am at times) its a false economy spending a shitload of money on a plastic fantastic 125cc bike that although will be faster than the boring upright CG125 it will be far more expensive in the long run.

Fuel economy will be less than on the CG. Insurance will be more. servicing will cost more, Parts will cost more and resale value will drop more.

Personally speaking I'd spend 800 quid on a decent CG or YBR and pass your test then sell the thing for around the same amount of money then spend the guts of £2500 for a decent YZF125 and sell that for £500 less at the end of a year.

I can look on ebay and find a decent 600cc sports bike for the same price as a YZF125. Its a false economy just for the vanity of looking like a fast bike rider. More so if you intend to sell it when you pass your test.

Case and point.

YZF R125 £2000 ish

YZF R6 £2000

Listen to pinky on this one. It is a waste of money, I was exactly the same too when I was turning 17 wanted a sporty looking bike so got my self a YZF125 three weeks later I crashed it and ended up spending 4 months on a YBR. At first I thought it was awful, after a few weeks I started to enjoy my self. I then realised what a mistake it was to buy the r125 and should have got a ybr/cg in the first place. Gained all my confidence on the YBR and done my test. It is the right way to go Thumbs Up

Oh and no the r125 won't really do 80 I had 76 out of mine on the flat down hill I got a 84 on the speedo

Its a 125. Trust me you wont be slip streaming anything but Dorris and Ethel on pension runs and you wont be getting nice and fast on anything less than a 250cc race rep. All you'll do is hammer the bollocks out of the engine while bigger bikes cruise past you and belive me that is a disheartening experience. Thinking your flying because the engine is screaming and then a real bike cruises past without even a murmer. I slowed down after it happened all embarrassed.

Means to an end. As a kid I didnt like sprouts on my plate at xmas dinner but I ate them because I knew if I did I would be eating chocolates and apple crumble after dinner.

You dont like sit up and beg 125's so use one as an incentive. Buy one and since you will be in a hurry to get off it again you'll pass your test faster. Then you can buy your apple crumble and chocolates. Laughing

Don't listen to these geezers. Spend everything you've got on an unrestricted RS125 and keep on doing exactly what you're doing.

Just sign up as an organ donor first so that somebody a bit smarter can get your pancreas after you're done with it.

as above really, if your into your bikes, save some moneys and do your test, get a real bike Thumbs Up

if your intent on buying a 125... id vote on a CG, or if you really want a sporty look the YZF-125. a lot of other "sport" 125's will just fall apart to be honest.

for the price of a 125 it makes much more financial sence to get a big bike Thumbs Up

No 125 has what you're looking for. Pass your test. An R125 doesn't even look fast... not with big dirty L's on it. It's just embarrassing.

Go for a 4t commuter, pass your test and move away from the school playground "my 50cc will do 70mph" shit. It just makes people look stupid.

is there any point? you have to buy a 125, insure it. then do your test, then sell your bike, buy another bike and insure that.

you could just stay on the 50cc a few months more and save yourself a huge load of cash. then you have a full licence with a nice big bike that is actually quick, looks good and nice to ride and isnt embarrassing and no L plates. Thumbs Up

Since you've already got the 50cc then spend time practicing for your test. Book your test through a training school with the money you would spend on the 125cc bike and pass on one of their bikes. Then you can sell the 50cc and buy a bigger bike.

No point spending the guts of a grand on a 125 and the hassle of insuring etc. When you can just rent a training schools one for 100 quid to do the test on. Thumbs Up

If you're serious about something fast (or even something that'll keep up with traffic), get a full license. If you're determined on a 125, give up on trying to get something fast. Get something 4t and reliable.

Heya Andy,

Depends on the school, prices for a full course (CBT, MOD 1, MOD 2 and a few lessons thrown in) vary from £400 - £600, just call your local training centre up and see how much they'd charge for a intensive course. You should have a little experience from the RS50 so the lessons will be useful to pick up on any bad habits that you may have picked up.

Thumbs Up

Oh, and even if you were to fail first time, you'd still be spending less than buying and insuring a 125 sports Thumbs Up
