Today, when I was bored at work, I worked out it costs me 15p for every mile I travel on the ER5, including all consumables.

How much does your bike cost to run?

Ride it hard and put it away wet, and don't ask any questions where you might not like the answer.

https://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php

I use it all the time to check my MPG. ATM it is costing me 6.4p a mile.

NOT including all consumables

Well I do 180 miles to £10.
Tyres are screwed after 8000k and cost £80 a set.
Brakes unsure how long they last, but im heavy handed.. so say £20 after 5000 miles.

Thats the CBR so to me...very cheap to run.

Supra on the other hand Laughing
140 miles to £80
Rear tyres every 5000 at £125 each
Front every 8000 at £100 each
Oil change every 2000 miles, 6 litres fully synthetic castrol... £loads.
Spark plugs every 4000 miles at £64 a set

I think its cheaper to run a Lambo..

You need to work it out with all your consumables or else it's not a real representation of how much it's costing you per mile, and that's what this thread is all about.

I thought it was costing me £3.36 to get to work each day (petrol alone), but it actually costs me £4.20. A lot more in reality.

Do chain and sprocket sets last forever? Wink

Hi

Not sure. Biggest cost on something fairly new is depreciation. Fairly easy for that to be 5p a mile on its own. There are also the minor service costs that add up, like spark plugs, air filters, etc.

All the best

Keith

0.26p/mile or 30 miles for and 8p charge if the marketing blurb is correct.

According to that, my last fill up showed as 24p per mile, with 80 miles to 15.2 litres, at 125.9p per litre.

To be fair, I usually get ~100 miles for the same fuel, but this past couple of weeks I've only used the bike for commuting the 5 mile round trip to work, so there's proportionately a lot of engine warming up/not going anywhere time, and no cruising time to make up the mpgs.

Unless I've done my maffs wrong...

Tax, insurance, MOT, Oil change and tyres (pro rata) = £215 a year

2000 miles, fuel at £1.30, and 62mpg = £190

£405 / 2000 = 0.20p

What you save on petrol, you are gonna lose a lot more on depreciation. The value of that is gonna plummet like a jet propelled rock(downwards).

Factor in depreciation in the first year, and you might find that 0.26p per mile changes a bit.

Don't think there will be much depreciation on £185. Batteries are the biggest problem with them. Pretty expensive and i'd just flog it on to some muppet on ebay when it needs new ones.

What's the range on them? How good are they with hills (4.5 miles up hill from my work to my home).

For £185 you cant go wrong. I was thinking you had got one new, due to the pic you had up.

Not sure if mechanics would know how to fix it if it went wrong, or if you could get parts, but for £185, if it ever does stop working, you can just scrap it.

I didn't include tax, insurance and M.O.T because it's a fixed cost, and doesn't change as you rack up more miles.

So, to clarify, it costs me 15p per mile in variable costs Laughing

Got it 2nd hand. They recon you get 40 miles from a full charge but reviews say you get more like 30. Dunno yet, only took it out once so far and it wasn't fully charged when i got it. Not great on hills tbh but then i am 16st 6. Just got it on a whim to mess with.

Need to include the cost of batteries every so many miles, which can easily be at least 5p per mile!

I included tax, insurance and MOT because they are consumables - I have to get new ones every year Smile
