Hello,

Well, I've been wanting to do a Europe tour on my bike for the last couple of years, but it will not be this year unfortunately! My GF doesn't really enjoy being on the bike, so I thought we could do it in the car instead.

Do you think the experience as a whole would be as good? The main thing were interested in is the scenery and seeing some of the big cities. Paris, Switzerland (for the scenery) and Italy (Lake Garda?) possibly Rome are a few places we would like to see.

The costs are probably going to be more expensive, as my car eats petrol.

Has anyone ever did this, and if so how enjoyable was it?

Cheers,
Steven

Every time a bike passes you basking in the sunshine over a mountain pass, a little piece of you will die inside.

Saying that I know people who have done impromptu tours of Europe in cars and had great fun.

Have fun!

I've done it on the bike for the last 3 years and this year the plan is to do it in a convertible roadster, hopefully shouldn't be that much less involving than being on a bike with the roof down and a whole load easier to take stuff and do the things I want and stay dry when the weather inevitably turns to crap at some point. I think you'd feel a lot more insulated from it all in a normal car, think half the reason a bike feels much more of an experience is because you're out in the open.

If you're sharing fuel costs it shouldn't be too expensive even in a fairly uneconomical car.

Probably better in the long run to upgrade your girlfriend.

Every time a bike passes you on the road look incredibly sad and then demand the sexual favour of your choice, she owes you that at least.

Depends on how much you enjoy driving a car compared to riding a bike.

If anything I often enjoy driving my BMW more than bikes because I've got more of an affinity with bikes, while cars are still relatively new to me.

Every time I got stuck in a traffic Jam I'd be swearing, however!
