Hi All,

My CBR600F has developed a stutter. Only happens when cold. Will stutter above 3k rpm for the first couple of miles then be ok. I assume this is a minor issue that could be solved with a service. Plugs? fuel line? carbs? Any ideas gratefully received. Apologies for my mechanical ignorance.

cheers
Straker

A service may well fix it but just be aware that it is also a sign of a failing coil. On the CBR FY each plug cap has a built in coil.

Does the FY have carb heaters? Or is it fuel injected? On the phone and cba to google. Because you've said it's only happening when it's cold I would say its carb icing assuming its carbed...

Blaming carb icing is like blaming the Esso for the price of fuel. Generally carb icing is caused at high throttle opening due to the venturi effect rapidly cooling the air. It can't occur when the bike isn't moving. Now frozen carbs are a different thing altogether.

FY is carb by the way and they are heated by the cooling system.

A fair few people recommend a fuel additive, Pro FST, for better running during the winter. I never needed it so I've not tried it.

Well I suggested that as the prpblem as my friend had a 1997 GSXR 600 SRAD that suffered terribly in the winter from carb icing, it was worst when slowing down and pulling away at roundabouts etc

You mean Pro FST! FS365 is the ScottOiler anti-corrosion spray.

I'm convinced my fy's problems with stuttering and powerloss, were fuel pump related... I'll link you too the thread when I get on a pc Smile
