Just read this and maybe it's not as rubbish as I first thought....

Quote:
once the massive, traction-controlled rear tire hooks up, the bike slingshots forward like a stretched-and-slammed Hayabusa dragbike. There's no reason to doubt Ducati's claim that this is the quickest-accelerating bike they make. It feels like it would be untouchable in the quarter-mile

Had a wee sit on the carbon one at the Excel yesterday, it felt a little bit like the Rocket III (which I may also have developed a bit of a soft spot for) but mostly it felt like nothing else on earth.

View from the seat of the tank and dials honestly looked like you were on a spaceship or something.

Fair bit of a reaction around it, although the general consensus was 'I know I want one, but I have no idea what I'd do with it!'

I fully agree, absolutely no idea what the thing is for, when or where I'd use it, but I know I need one.

Reading the description 'Rocket III' was exactly what came to mind - they've made it faster off the line by making it longer, lower and heavier - then added a stupid back wheel because it's aimed at tarts Wink.

Yeah, pretty similar to be honest; cool kit, but hard to justify!

What's the point in riding bikes if people aren't looking at you and thinking how awesome you are?

+1

Diversity.

I like all these new types of bikes. Bikes with a nod to the future. 20yrs ago people would freak at something like the diavel with it's fly by wire throttle and muti-modes for everything.

Seem to remember reactions to the first Katana bikes from Suzuki in the very early 80's were a little sceptical.

Standard exhausts sound a bit sheeeite. Not many owners would keep them though.

Probably going to be too expensive for me to be honest. I am setting a maximum spend at around £18k, including the termignoni exhaust upgrade and a few other bits and pieces.

If this one was Red Carbon though, I'd have it!

It's a nice bike, defo a tart bike though, but a nice one..

I like all the electronics and stuff on it, I think it'd be ok two up as well though not sure how much a pillion would appreciate a full on traction control assisted launch!

Tad on the expensive side though, i'd not like to pay that for a car nevermind a bike.

What's traction control got to do with a launch with pillion, unless it's wet? Wink
Would have thought even a full on cruiser would have trouble losing grip with a pillion on the back.

Partly agree, but I know quite a few people riding vmax bikes who have got the back very squiffy pinning it from go. This is obviously a very different bike but they have quite a similar stance, and this one has more power (apart from the new vmax).

Surely with traction control some people might be a little more wreckless and let the electronics keep things inline?

Not that it'd be as quick as a proper launch, but it might be easier to do a quicker launch for the average jo.

I reckon that average jo has never launched one of his pillions on a sub 4.5 0-60 second launch on a bike before..

It'd be fun to watch though.
