Need to get her running again for tomorrow's 100 mile journey to Uni so its a tad worrying Sad

Started fine yesterday, seeing as she was cold I revved the accelerator to help her along but like normal once dying back to idle she just cut out. Fair enough give her another kick start.

Except now she won't do anything, thought I'd flooded the engine but after leaving her overnight plus charging the battery theres been no joy!

Afew weeks ago I'd fiddled with the idle screw to speed up the idling to stop her cutting out when slowing down behind traffic, however she started fine after doing this so I can't see whats changed.

The Spark plug is new and I've checked shes still sparking, also put a gallon of new petrol in!

Any ideas?

Easy start or WD40 in the airbox might get it up & running , as it seems like you haven't time for diognosing fully the problem . And hope it sorts its self out with a run ? Neutral

Shes a 1996 model, took apart the air filter and it was bolloxed, literally crumbling n smelt of petrol Confused

But anyways I replaced the air filter, will spray on some WD40 then!

I could well have done and by the looks of the spark plug the mixture is wayyy to rich, so I tightened the screw now to give a leaner mix, giving it ten minutes to unflood with petrol and hopefully with the new air filter she should start working!

Ps the new air filter is a homebase sponge because I didn't have any other choice Laughing

Worst comes to worst I'll open up the carb to check for dirt or a blockage but don't really want to because its dark and raining lmao

Will Update If anything works/changes!

as rob said, put the mixture screw back to standard, usually 1 and half turns out. Remember the mixture screw is only the mixture control when the bike is idling! It has no effects when the throttle is opend up.

Your bike has been running rich if the air filter was blocked to buggery!

If your new to maintenance then I suggest reading the Honda Common service manual, it explains the basics of how each part works and general service tips

Oh just a question, not worth opening a new thread over.

Having a lot of problems moving off, most of it due to my bad clutch control, but should I be releasing it to more than half way before she starts moving with a little throttle?? (Then the tiny bit more than she needs and one kinda stalls again.

I know the cable has a bit of damage to it, I think some of the rubber sheath has been taped up and there could have been a bit of surface rust on the cable itself although its been awhile since I looked at it carefully tbh. But I do remember my friend who did much of the work on her saying it needed replacing at some point.

the clutch cable should be smooth to operate, if its binding and being jerky then yes, your more likely to easily stall it.

Other hand is that the cable is just about ok, and your letting the clutch out too fast or not enough throttle
